Do you want to lead the commercial strategy for some of our most complex, high-value energy projects in the UK? GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional Principal Engineer - Senior Commercial Manager to join our Electrification team based in Rugby, UK.

The Senior Commercial Manager will act as a key commercial authority, leading our highest-value, complex tenders and shaping the contractual strategies that drive our business forward. You will play a pivotal role within our Power Conversion & Storage division, where you will manage end-to-end commercial operations for multi-million-pound projects. You will be the lead voice in high-profile negotiations, balancing assertiveness with collaboration to protect our business interests while building long-term customer trust.

Beyond your individual contributions, you will serve as a mentor and escalation point, guiding the wider commercial team to ensure excellence and consistency across our proposal submissions.

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Leading the preparation and submission of complex, high-value commercial proposals and tenders, including multi-party and consortium-based structures.
  • Executing strategic redlines on terms and conditions, ranging from industrial frameworks like FIDIC and NEC4 to specialized government and defence standards.
  • Navigating elevated risk factors associated with first-of-a-kind technologies and new market entries to ensure project success.
  • Owning the risk assessment process, managing commercial deviations and gathering necessary approvals (Export Controls, Tax, Credit Checks, and Cashflow health).
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to build robust cost structures, managing financial provisions, risk contingencies, and margins.
  • Mentoring commercial managers and new team members, providing guidance on complex queries and supporting their ongoing professional development.
  • Representing the business with strategic credibility in front of customers and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Acting as a key point of escalation for complex commercial or contractual queries within the team.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of commercial processes, templates, and risk frameworks, including post mortem analysis of key deals.

Skills for Success

  • A deep understanding of contract mechanics and a passion for negotiation, with the ability to independently interpret and resolve complex commercial terms.
  • The expertise to manage high-value contracts and complex commercial operations within large-scale industrial, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • The capability to influence and lead cross-functional teams, engaging effectively with senior customer representatives.
  • Significant proven experience in commercial management within large scale Industrial, Energy, or Infrastructure sectors. Familiarity with Government/Defence contracting (e.g., MoD standards or DEFCONs) is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating high value contracts and managing complex commercial operations.
  • The ability to mentor others and contribute to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and risk frameworks.
  • A formal education and subsequent University Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.

Note: Depending on project assignment, you may be required to hold, or be eligible and willing to undergo, UK Security Clearance (SC level) to support Defence-related contracts.

This is a permanent position based in our Rugby, UK office. This is an onsite role, allowing for maximum collaboration and connection with your team.
