As a senior engineer, you will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic team of engineers working on the delivery and application engineering of existing and new electronic applications, particularly for HVDC converters and the forthcoming "HVDC Grid". This role offers moderate autonomy and high operational judgment, allowing you to contribute to technical strategy, policy development, and delivery within your area of responsibility. Based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford, you will travel internationally to collaborate with GE teams, test laboratories, suppliers, and customers. Represent the business externally through GE patent applications, technical publications, conferences, and professional bodies such as IEC and CIGRE.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the business externally, including participation in GE patent applications and technical publications.
  • Travel internationally to collaborate with GE teams, test laboratories, strategic suppliers, and contract customers.
  • Lead and provide key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
  • Serve as a mentor or coach for colleagues with less experience.
  • Follow GE code of ethics and values and ensure safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Degree level or higher in a related technical subject with proven experience.
  • Extensive electronics engineering expertise; solid knowledge of electronic components, principles, digital and analogue circuit design.
  • Strong knowledge of HVDC, industrial networks (Profibus, Ethernet, PON), and PCB layout supervision.
  • Experience in design for manufacture, test, industrialisation, and design to cost.
  • Familiarity with EHS compliance, ROHS/REACH, and EMC.
  • Experience with FPGA component selection and firmware development.
  • Ability to think innovatively and apply engineering knowledge across disciplines.
  • Experience with product verification, validation, and testing, including type testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, with ability to lead DFMEA and failure analysis.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills; ability to provide technical consultation.
  • Travel worldwide for product validations, testing, and supply‐chain integration.
  • Certified Chartered Engineer or working toward accreditation (IEC, CIGRE).
