Become part of a winning team at our UK Centre of Excellence and a Government strategic facility. GE’s Power Conversion is based on customer requirements, and it will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments (e.g. UK Security Clearance (SC)) as part of the hiring process.

As part of the Systems Engineering team, lead system engineering execution on rail projects, accurately, on schedule and to budget. Provide technical leadership to the projects, and support the customer-facing business unit in the technical delivery of projects, delivering valued system solutions with excellent operational rigor. Support the tendering team to provide the best technical offers in line with customer requirements and standards.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Fully engage with Business Engineering Leadership, Lead Engineering Management, Project Management and Supply Chain, as appropriate, to execute our projects with excellence.
  • Lead a team of multidisciplinary engineers specialising in power systems, power conversion, automation, control and mechanical integration to ensure the overall solution meets customer, contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage team activities for technical deliveries of projects; plan as required using management tools to ensure on-time delivery and quality targets are met.
  • Provide technical leadership, advice and assistance to the overall project team as appropriate including Commissioning, Service and 3rd parties.
  • Support the Project Manager as required and deputise for them as and when the need arises.
  • Plan and progress all design engineering related activities including testing and commissioning for specific projects.
  • Establish, drive and maintain the engineering quality control system for projects in line with company guidelines.
  • Monitor, control and manage engineering budgets, project documentation, risk management process, FMEA, design reviews and the change control system in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Manage customer requirements, derive sub-system and equipment requirements, cross-reference with validation evidence.
  • Liaise with other departments, GE businesses, sub-contractors and suppliers, as appropriate, to support the project for the best outcome of the customer and business.
  • Support and help drive improvements in the efficiency of the engineering process.

Have significant experience in:

  • An engineering leadership environment.
  • Application engineering.
  • Rail applications.
  • Specifying components: drives, motors, transformers, switchboards…
  • Design and system integration working on complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Integrated control schemes with PLCs, HMI and Drives.
  • Power generation, conversion, transmission and distribution.
  • LV and MV variable speed drives and motors.
  • On-site commissioning of large projects.
  • Managing and evidencing compliance with Requirements, Codes and Regulations.
