Become part of GE Vernova Electrification Portfolio by joining the winning team of GSI business unit focused on delivering Grid Transmission Projects and helping drive the Green Energy transition. During the period of rapid expansion, GSI is actively expanding and recruiting Project Engineering Managers to deliver our existing and upcoming projects spread over North, South & West of Europe. GSI project portfolio encompasses a wide range of electrification projects that include conventional AC HV Grid transmission projects, state-of-the-art technology FACTs and HVDC Converter station projects, offshore wind farm transmission stations, etc. As part of this team, you’ll be based in one of our establishments, as per the job location of this position with business travel requirements based on assigned portfolio. We have a flexible (hybrid) work approach.
About the role, this role is primarily focused on managing engineering delivery of one or multiple projects based on business strategy. However, in addition to the role of a Sr. PEM, this profile includes responsibility as a Project Engineering Team Lead for a group of PEMs/Sr PEM driving engineering governance and strategy across the identified portfolio of projects. The main activities & role as a Project Engineering Manager and the role of a team leader are detailed in the Roles and Responsibilities section of this job description.
Roles and Responsibilities as a Project Engineering Manager:
- Supervising, coordinating and leading the engineering activities of the project in line with the project’s safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost criteria.
- Manage the scope and engineering deliverables in coordination with responsible functions/disciplines.
- Manage global time schedule of concerned engineering activities, check coherency & alignment with other project functions activities (procurement, construction, commissioning) and organise follow-up of critical activities impacting project performance.
- Lead and drive project execution strategy, manage internal/external outsourcing for design work-packages.
- Respect and guard the engineering aspects of contractual limits and liabilities towards partners, suppliers and customers.
- Operate under the matrix organisation, supported by technical experts and design teams, and ensure to achieve project objectives.
- Follow the engineering budget and identify potential savings and highlight to the Project Manager all instances requiring additional budget.
- Participate and contribute to the project multidisciplinary design reviews according to the EMH procedures and per the project strategy.
- Manage scope or design changes & prepare related claims and VO to be approved by Project Engineering Director or Project Manager.
- Lead and ensure design validation throughout customer acceptance.
- Lead the technical specifications and supplier’s documents to enable procurement of materials and plant detailed design from RFQ to SAT.
- Lead the technical ownership of the project towards customer and all internal/external stakeholders.
- Follow and enforce adequate governance actions to manage engineering performance of the project.
Roles and Responsibilities as a Team Leader:
- Lead & coordinate a mid-sized team of project engineering managers (PEM/Sr PEMs) delivering objectives as stated under PEM responsibilities.
- Drive & develop common strategies aligned across the portfolio of small to mid-size projects for targeted customer & project base.
- Develop technical alignment with identified customers/area of operation, in terms of technical standards, practices & statutory compliances and drive efficient project delivery across the projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Engineering degree level or equivalent education/experience.
- Experience of Engineering activities to lead and deliver grid transmission projects in EPC type environment.
- Successful experience in project technical management in a multi-disciplinary team’s context including multiple interfaces and with products coming from several countries.
- Able to lead and excel with the teams in matrix organisation.
- Necessary profile and technical certification for the targeted customer base.
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong Knowledge of the Transmission or Distribution industry is essential.
- Awareness and ability to comply with local regulations & customer practices in the country/area of operation is key to the role.
- Ability to coordinate multi-projects & remote multi-functional teams with clear communication and leadership.
