The successful candidate may choose to be based at our Stafford (UK) or Villeurbanne (France) site.

About the role

As Cyber Security requirements continue to rise within the energy sector, GE Vernova is looking for an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join our Tendering team.

By joining us, you will lead the definition of Cyber Security strategies for our electrical substation solutions (AC, HVDC, FACTS), ensuring compliance with customer requirements, applicable standards, and GE Vernova policies.

You will play a key role in developing secure, compliant, and competitive proposals for our complex international projects and grids.

Your scope will cover protection, control, telecommunications, metering, SCADA interfaces, and auxiliary systems (Balance of Plant - Bo P).

Reporting to the Tendering Engineering Region Leader, you will work in close collaboration with sales, engineering, procurement, and project teams, as well as product specialists, suppliers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Cyber Security aspect of tenders to ensure our solutions meet customer requirements, GE Vernova policy, and prevailing industrial and regional standards.
  • Analyze technical specifications, contractual requirements, and customer Cyber Security standards, translating them into operational solutions.
  • Define Cyber Security requirements and architectures for high-voltage substations.
  • Prepare and maintain Cyber Security deliverables during the tender phase: execution plans, compliance matrices, technical specifications, architecture diagrams, risk registers, assumptions, and deviations.
  • Contribute to technical discussions with customers.
  • Advise tender teams on Cyber Security responsibilities to ensure compliant solutions.
  • Coordinate suppliers and partners to ensure their proposals integrate necessary security requirements.
  • Participate in internal technical reviews to validate the compliance of proposed Cyber Security solutions.
  • Identify risks (technical, commercial, delivery) and propose mitigation measures.
  • Ensure alignment of solutions with OT Cyber Security principles: network segmentation, secure remote access, system hardening, access management, logging, patch management, and backup.
  • Apply GE Vernova governance processes and contribute to continuous improvement of practices.
  • Required Profile
  • Degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in Cyber Security, specifically in Operational Technology (OT) environments, Industrial Control Systems (ICS), and/or critical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing security controls for OT systems, including firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and access management solutions.
  • Strong understanding of network segmentation strategies and secure architecture design tailored to OT environments.
  • Experience in the power industry, ideally in high-voltage substations or grid automation.
  • Demonstrable experience with protection, control, telecom, or metering systems.
  • Good understanding of substation automation architectures: IEDs, gateways, HMI, RTUs, and network switches.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks and IEC 61850 environments.
  • Practical knowledge of IEC 62443, NCSC CAF, NIS2 Directive, Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and the NIST framework.
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP standards is an asset.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and coordinating with suppliers.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken).
  • Personal Attributes
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and autonomous.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Curious, resilient, and committed to continuous learning.
  • Strong team spirit, with the ability to collaborate effectively in an international setting.
