The role is for a Technical Applications Engineer in the UK, based in Stafford, UK, supporting the commercial and operations teams in the North Europe region.
Responsibilities
- Execute the review, analysis and resolution of assigned customer application enquiries using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product deadline requirements.
- Provision of technical support to internal and external customers on the complete range of Grid Automation portfolio both remotely and in face‑to‑face meetings.
The role will consist of both office‑based responsibilities and site visits in the UK and overseas.
- Assist the commercial/sales organisation in ensuring the best technical solution, promotion of the full GA portfolio, presentations, and assistance during technical negotiations as well as completing formal tenders in line with customer specifications.
- Understand the power industry, trends, and practices along with customer roadmaps and challenges/expectations.
- Gather market intelligence and understand competitors’ products to aid in GA future roadmap.
- Work with the commercial team to specify and homologate GA portfolio.
- Provide technical support to the Operations/Service Teams to aid in the execution of projects, FATs, SATs and site commissioning.
- Conduct customer trainings to help customers in the application and operation of the Grid Automation portfolio.
- Provide training to GE employees on the latest portfolio.
- Attend and present at trade shows, seminars, and conferences as necessary, both in the UK and overseas.
- Prepare technical papers to promote GE.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with strong SCADA substation control knowledge.
- Advanced experience in a customer‑facing engineering position.
- Knowledge of the GA portfolio desirable, along with understanding of competitive products and solutions.
- Advanced substation protection and substation control system applications knowledge within the T&D segment.
- Experience with IEC 61850‑based substation automation solutions and cyber security standards highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of substation protection, substation automation, and RTUs to assist customers in selecting and implementing the best GE solution for their applications.
- Experience with network protocols, HMI systems, and software packages desirable.
- Site testing and commissioning experience of substation protection and substation control systems desirable.
- Ability to analyze specific applications and produce technical reports.
- Commercial acumen and basic financial awareness.
- Able to travel both within the country and overseas.
- Fluent English (written and verbal communication with customers).
- Experience working in a substation environment desirable.
- Understanding and experience of testing practices and equipment desirable.
