Overview

Electrical Drive Train Technical Support Engineer role at GE Vernova. The Drive Train Commissioning Technical Support Engineer provides technical leadership for commissioning projects of the Offshore Wind Platform (Haliade X), covering the complete electrical drive train (HV/MV cables, GIS, transformer, converters and generator) from supplier manufacturing to offshore operations. Responsibilities include asset reception validation from supply chain, de-risking issues, technical preparation for onshore and offshore commissioning, alignment with design and project operations teams to release a fully validated commissioning test plan, and achieving technical and EHS excellence with site and remote support until project closure. Quality and customer satisfaction are the main goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical and operational improvements with Design teams.
• Support documentation creation for Haliade commissioning procedures, considering the latest Engineering test Plan, Electrical Machinery Standards, project customization and engineering improvements, with strong emphasis on EHS compliance.
• Support Package managers and follow up project execution for all technical topics to prepare and execute the commissioning strategy in a timely manner.
• Support the back office purchasing team by defining clear tooling and spares lists for ongoing projects.
• Participate in the development and improvement of tooling in coordination with the Engineering department.
• Build relationships with customers to clarify interfaces and establish a partnership on technical aspects of the commissioning.
• Provide technical support onsite and remotely to onshore, offshore, and ROC teams; perform initial investigations with Design Engineering teams; manage defects and PACs; plan support from suppliers or design teams; be accountable for technical topics during works executions.
• Drive continuous process improvements to enhance safety and/or reduce costs, with focus on EHS compliance, digitalization, and data analytics.
• Support engineering during the NPI process for commissioning.
• Follow up tests in previous manufacturing stages and prepare commissioning protocols for onshore and offshore to ensure technical de-risking and smooth offshore commissioning, with emphasis on digitalization.
• Special focus on power converter and high-voltage drive train commissioning and technical support.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Technical diploma in electro-mechanics or industrial engineering, with equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years\’ experience with electrical drive trains in various industries.
• English required; Spanish, French, and Portuguese are a plus.
• Experience in wind turbine commissioning and project preparation; experience with supplier management and manufacturing lines is a plus.
• Experience in wind turbine technical support and leading multidisciplinary teams (design, suppliers, quality, and project).
• Experience with design or commissioning of power converters, PM generators, HV transformers, and MV switchgear.
• Experience with tools management and quality tools (8D, SIPOC, FMEA).
• Strategic thinker with the ability to set vision and lead teams to successful outcomes.
• Strong systems thinking: ability to assess risk, break down complex issues, evaluate tradeoffs, and enable effective decision making.
