As a Senior Lead Control & Protection System Engineer, you will be responsible to lead the design and provide a competitive technical solution to the customer in the domain of HVDC control and protection system (Automation & Application), associated AC & secondary engineering at the ITO stage. This includes analysing customer requirements, assessing the necessary deviations from our standard product while promoting standard solutions & cost competitiveness.
You will be part of ITO C&P HVDC solution line team that provides overall tender solution with associated documentation in line with customer requirement and develops and maintains standard solutions and costs for HVDC & AC control & protection systems. As a part of the team, your contribution would be a foundation of efficient and good quality project delivery.
- Analyze in depth customer specification, identify gaps, raise clarifications & build solid technical solution to cater to customer requirement for HVDC & AC control & protection system
- In coordination with systems team, design/contribute to AC substation Single line diagrams
- Prepare control, protection and sequencing strategy specifications
- Perform preliminary dynamic performance studies in various simulation tools (MATLAB, PSCAD etc)
- Support improvements to existing algorithm/strategies for power fault recovery or instability issues during DPS studies
- Develop/ Customize standard control architectures, design of LAN networks, identify main IO lists through signal mapping & implement the necessary hardware & its compatibility with the control system
- Knowledge of network and latest protocols (like IEC 61850)
- In coordination with cybersecurity expert, analyse compliance to cybersecurity standards and their implementation in the network
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to provide a complete solution with clear division of responsibility
- Provide input data like auxiliary consumption, cubicle/equipment list to partners
- Prepare technical specifications for sourcing and validation of offers received
- Lead the discussions during customer meetings/workshops
- Plan & ensure on-time delivery of engineering documents and cost estimates
- Evaluate risks and opportunities & propose mitigation measures
- Contribute to continuous improvement by participating & promoting standardization of tools, documents, solutions & equipment
- Provide mentorship/trainings to junior engineers
- Provide technical support being an expert in your domain
- Follow the department's standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines
- Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes in EMH
- Cross functional training across teams (Control Automation Systems, Control System Application, Protection System Application, Secondary engineering) will be provided
Qualifications / Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field
- Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in control and protection system design
- Knowledge of Electrical Substation and its HV, LV equipment and Auxiliary Systems
- Strong background on Electrical power system protection & control
- Experience in working with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, e-base, Microsoft Visio
- Experience in PSCAD and MATLAB-SIMULINK simulation tools
- Experience in designing control system with industrial protocols like IEC 61850 (preferably as used in substation/power plant environments)
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks
- Experience in coaching/mentoring juniors
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, experienced in creating and presenting technical reports and responding to clients’ technical questions
- Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements
- Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution
