Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will work within the HVDC Valve Engineering team within the Solution Line (SL) of Grid Systems Integration (GSI) in GE Vernova. The purpose of the role is to lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems and structures for our HVDC Valve products that must meet stringent requirements. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, cooling engineers, and external compliance experts to ensure that our products are robust, compliant, and manufacturable.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead teams to deliver the relevant aspects of assigned projects through design, investigation, testing and analysis.
  • Collaborate with sourcing and third-party suppliers to ensure GE gets best value and drive the delivery.
  • Lead specification and design reviews for compliance with internal, regional and global standards.
  • Lead the interaction with site and quality teams to ensure DFM (Design for Manufacture) and structural integrity during installation.
  • Validate and approve the materials and supplied parts.
  • Approve documentation of designs, test results, and engineering change orders.

The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and rapidly growing team of engineers working on the project activities related to HVDC applications. This is a very exciting and dynamic field of power engineering in which GE’s leading contribution has worldwide recognition. The role gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to innovate, expand their skills and personal development within an internationally recognised expert in this exciting field. Whilst ideally based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford, this role could be located at any of the GE sites but would then involve regular travel to the UK.

The candidate will probably be educated to degree level in mechanical engineering. However, this is not as important as a proven track record and evidence that you have the experience and abilities to perform the role. Candidates should have detailed experience in all mechanical elements and testing for electrical/mechanical equipment. It is key that the candidate has experience at a senior level to demonstrate they can lead an engineering team. Highly skilled in CAD software (Creo, or similar) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred). Able to read and interpret technical drawings and communicate these to a non-technical audience. Significant oral and written communication skills. Team leadership, ability to develop and mentor junior engineers. EHS compliance ability – qualifications related to safety and the environment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior experience of electrical transmission, HVDC or related industry.
  • Qualifications in leadership or management.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Has been involved in new product introduction / R&D programs.
  • Willing and able to travel globally for short periods of time.
