The Project Engineering Management Function Leader supervises and coordinates the Project Engineering Management Team (PEMs) to undertake their role and lead the Engineering on their assigned projects. Assists the PEMs at project launching phase, controls engineering process follow up, ensures the proper management of interfaces with our partners and main suppliers. Be accountable for the proper allocation of resources required to execute the projects, looks for design subcontractors to adapt resources to the workload plan and optimize design budget. Handles specific actions, organizes know-how capitalization and RoE to improve global engineering efficiency for relevant activities.

The Project Engineering Management Function Leader is accountable for the proper compliance to the ‘state of the art’ and applicable standard and regulation in his field of activity, and is considered as technical referent for the teams. As manager, the Head of group is in charge of conducting annual reviews of the teams.

Key missions include:

  • Project management: Scope of work, time schedule, consulted on design task list at project launch, review of general time schedule and assignment of resources to start engineering.
  • Resources: Accountable for design budget on ongoing projects, allocates design resources monthly to execute all ongoing projects, manages design workload plan for his/her discipline and proposes resource arbitration.
  • Team management: Leads and coordinates design teams of his/her discipline, animates regular internal team meetings, holds performance development meetings with team members and proposes development plans, performs skills mapping for his/her teams.
  • Engineering process control: Ensures consistency of process and tools used on all projects, detects any malfunctioning during different engineering phases and implements corrective actions, ensures planning and realization on time of design reviews, and conducts discipline basic design/gate reviews.
  • Project strategy & risk management: Supports PEM in design strategy definition, supports team to manage scope or design changes, ensures implementation of EMH guidelines, identifies and consolidates technical risks & opportunities and corresponding mitigation/action plans, validates the result of design reviews and technical risks assessment for the involved discipline.
  • Customer knowledge: Consulted to understand customer requirements and check that proposed solutions are coherent with solutions proposed in the same geographical area, with similar constraints.
  • Document & configuration management: Checks that traceability from Customer requirements to equipment specifications is done, tracking & management of identified or potential deviations are performed, ensures management of return status of project documentation internal or external.
  • Design expediting: Consults on basic design phase, supports to ensure technical consistency of design area and associated performance level, accountable for compliance to the ‘state of the art’ and applicable standards and regulations.
  • Process & Tools: Deploys GRID Engineering tools associated to his/her discipline, integrates EHS requirements in engineering process and deploys HAZID sessions at different project phases, gives necessary support to consolidate engineering KPI’s for the discipline.
  • Interface with Procurement, Supplier/Partner management: Supports Sourcing and Procurement in the definition of the Supplier’s list according to the project strategy, consulted for the technical evaluation of offers from suppliers, consulted in the equipment ITP review and approval.
  • Return of Experience & Knowledge Capitalisation: Accountable for Site/Design return of experience & design validation, organizes functional knowledge capitalization for dedicated practice areas.
  • Quality: Complies with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes defined at Unit, project level, and in EMH, reports or resolves any non-conformances and processes in a timely manner.
  • Health and Safety: Deploys design freeze and EHS in design, demonstrates EHS leadership and ensures Zero Deviation Plan is implemented within the team.
  • Performance Measurement: Discipline Schedule updated with achievable task duration, discipline design reviews & gate reviews plan formalized and followed, design management tools strictly followed, and submission of coherent data.

Desired Profile and Experience:

  • Significant experience in Engineering activities in EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen or Oil & Gas industry.
  • Mastering of involved discipline (process, tools, technical aspects).
  • Successful experience in project technical management of the discipline in a multi-disciplinary team’s context including multiple interfaces and with products coming from several countries.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong influencing and relationship building skills.
  • Experience in technical problem solving.
  • Knowledge of GRID factories and products through FAT, site visits.
  • Knowledge of project execution risks and financial processes.
  • Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium periods and to travel worldwide.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages.
  • Demonstrates ownership & accountability, judgment and decision making, influences & inspires team, creates a vision and strategy, and has passion for the role.
