The Manufacturing Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing the quality control processes and EHS within the manufacturing facility. As a visible member of the manufacturing leadership team, you will inspire those around you and be responsible for delivering operational excellence in the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) framework. This role ensures that all products meet or exceed customer expectations and comply with regulatory standards. The Manager will lead the quality team, develop quality controls, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Under the Manager's leadership, the quality team will be the first port of call for production support with the aim of keeping the line moving. The role is pivotal in a fast-paced environment that requires both technical expertise, strong leadership, and clear communication. Ultimately leading the Manufacturing Quality team to create a strong quality and safety culture with engaged and motivated staff while maintaining strong working relationships with all stakeholders (internal, external, and customers).
Responsibilities
- Quality Control Management: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies and procedures to meet manufacturing standards. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, certifications, and customer requirements.
- Team Leadership: Lead and develop a culture supportive of the GE Vernova Way, ensuring effective communication across the Quality organization. Ensure the team understands and is aligned to operational goals. Lead, mentor, and manage the quality control team, fostering a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge within the team.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance product quality and efficiency. Implement and maintain a quality improvement process, targeting reduction in product and process variation using metrics to measure performance. Use data-driven analysis to monitor quality and safety metrics and drive corrective actions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the manufacturing process. Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments to address quality-related challenges.
- Customer Focus: Address customer quality concerns promptly and effectively, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. Protect customers through structured problem-solving, solving problems quickly with rigor and transparency. Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for non-conformances.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of non-conformance reports, audits, and inspections. Prepare and present actionable quality performance reports.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management within an Engineering manufacturing environment.
- Desirable: Certified Quality Management or Certified Qualified Engineer.
- Desirable: qualified as a Lead or Internal Auditor in the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Experience of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
- Leadership and team management experience in Quality-focused industries, e.g., automotive, aviation, and defence.
- Desirable knowledge of ISO14001 environmental management.
- Recognized UK Safety Qualification: NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or an equivalent certification is desirable.
Skills
- Interpretation of technical drawings, specifications, charts etc. with an ability to recognise and understand the importance of tolerance and accuracy.
- TQM/TQC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing.
- Proven ability to analyse complex data and drive process improvements.
- Demonstrable experience of standardised problem-solving techniques such as '8D', '5 Whys', 'FMEA' or similar recognised engineering problem-solving techniques.
- Implementation of Statistical Process Control.
Working Conditions
- This position may require occasional travel to supplier or customer sites.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing or walking for extended periods.
