GE Vernova Grid Solutions Integration (GSI) is seeking a Consulting Engineer with extensive experience in HVDC converter and interface transformer technologies to join the Controlled Title Holders (CTH), a community of senior engineers with the highest level of technical expertise in the business and influential voices within the industry. CTH Consulting Engineers are recognized for their leadership and deep knowledge. This role requires expertise in power transformer design, especially HVDC converter and interface transformers, along with a strong understanding of international standards such as IEC and IEEE. A proven record of technical publications is expected to demonstrate reliable technical guidance. The Consulting Engineer will represent GE Vernova with clients, suppliers, and professional bodies like IEC and CIGRE, providing expert advice and contributing to industry standards. This senior role is key to advancing transformer design and supporting the global energy transition while maintaining GE Vernova's leadership in the power sector.
Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor engineers through on-the-job and formal training programs, including HVDC University training modules.
- Represent GE in engagements with external stakeholders such as clients, third-party suppliers, and professional bodies (IEC, CIGRE, etc.).
- Collaborate with GE Vernova stakeholders across the HVDC business unit and the wider GE Vernova organization.
- Develop innovative ideas and contribute to international scientific publications and patents.
- Lead major and complex assignments with significant long-term business impact within the area of expertise.
- Coordinate with other GE Vernova HVDC designers to optimize transformer solutions for overall HVDC system performance.
- Manage the governance process for design specification approvals, ensuring rigorous standards are maintained.
- Establish and enforce comprehensive design, manufacturing, and testing gates with suppliers to ensure oversight and successful delivery and commercial operation of transformers.
- Lead technical discussions with suppliers to achieve optimized and cost-effective transformer designs for all reference solutions.
- Maintain a deep understanding of international (IEC, IEEE) and local standards applicable to power transformers.
Additional Responsibilities
- Quality: Participate in the development and deployment of engineering processes, working methods, and best practices. Enforce engineering discipline by ensuring adherence to company policies, quality procedures, and work instructions through training and technical reviews. Report or resolve any non-conformances promptly to maintain high standards.
- Development and Industrialization: Develop and industrialize tools, solutions, and processes related to engineering activities to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Health and Safety (EHS): Identify and assess EHS risks proactively. Lead by example by demonstrating proper safety practices, actively observing work conditions and behaviors, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing effective prevention. Participate in defining corrective actions when unsafe conditions or uncontrolled risks are identified. Routinely monitor workplace behaviors and provide immediate feedback on unsafe actions while celebrating safe practices. Promote a culture of hazard identification and near-miss reporting within the team.
Must-have requirements
- Master's or PhD degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Transformer Design or related fields, with a demonstrated record of technical publications and contributions to the industry.
- Extensive experience in the design and development of HVDC Converter and Interface Transformers, with a proven ability to lead complex technical programs, typically gained over 15 to 20 years.
- Deep expertise in transformer specification, validation, testing, insulation coordination, and integration into HVDC and transmission systems.
- Solid understanding of system-level aspects, including civil interfaces, transport and handling, site installation, and operational performance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of international standards (IEC, IEEE) and the ability to apply them effectively in engineering practice.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and industry bodies.
- Sound engineering judgment and high ethical standards, with a consistent approach to informed and responsible decision-making.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional, multicultural engineering environments, with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and results.
- Proven experience in supplier management, including technical alignment, contract interpretation, and oversight of technical delivery.
