We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.
As a Lead Controls and Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering control system projects primarily for Marine, Offshore and Naval applications. This technical role entails working with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to design, implement and test our Controls & Automation Systems solutions to meet both customer and marine classification society requirements. In this role you will focus on:
- Supporting the engineering activities during the production of control systems from the receipt of an order to handing over to the customer after commissioning and testing on the vessel at sea.
- Providing a technical interface to customers, classification societies, and suppliers.
- Producing design, installation, and test documentation; maintaining this documentation throughout the project cycle.
- Working with the Drawing Office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings, and interface schedules.
- Performing the functional design of HMI, PLC Architecture, Networks, and Communications Interfaces using standard hardware and software components.
- Writing PLC software using IEC 61131-3 programming languages e.g., Ladder diagram (LD), Function block diagram (FBD), Structured text (ST), Instruction list (IL), and Sequential function chart (SFC).
- Designing, tagging, and testing control system mimics using HMI SCADA packages.
- Planning and progressing design and test activities to meet the required delivery dates.
- Managing change during the project lifecycle using appropriate change management processes.
- Performing factory testing of control systems leading to a formal Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with customer and classification society.
- Supporting the commissioning and sea-trials phase of the project; normally from the office but with the possibility of visiting the vessel.
- Providing technical advice and assistance to the sales, commissioning, and service teams.
We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:
- A relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics or Industrial Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent), or significant relevant experience gained in a professional engineering environment.
- Previous experience of designing and integrating control & automation project solutions.
- Good understanding of programming PLCs.
- Knowledge of Industrial communication protocols e.g. Modbus (RTU/TCP IP), OPC-UA, Profibus, Profinet etc.
- Unrestricted Right to Work in the United Kingdom.
