This is an opportunity to work as part of a cross‑functional team to deliver product designs that meet customer and project requirements in close conjunction with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and collaborate with Customers and Project Management, Sourcing and Procurement, Manufacturing and Quality teams.

At GE Vernova's Rugby site, the products we build power critical infrastructure across the world — and getting the design right matters. As a CAD Engineer specialising in rotating electrical machines, you'll play a hands‑on role in translating customer and project requirements into detailed 3D models, part drawings, and assembly specifications that guide manufacturing from concept through to certification. You'll work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing and quality teams to ensure every design is technically sound, commercially viable, and ready to build. If you take pride in precise, well‑structured design work and want to develop your expertise on high‑stakes engineering products, this is a role where your contribution will be tangible and visible.

What You'll Do

  • You'll own the full design development workflow — from initial concept modelling through to detailed drawings, change management, and certification documentation.
  • Develop concept and detailed designs— produce concept designs through 3D models and evaluate them against technical and commercial requirements to recommend the best overall solution; develop detailed designs through 3D model sub‑assemblies to top‑level assembly in close collaboration with electrical and mechanical engineers.
  • Produce manufacturing‑ready documentation— create detailed part drawings and specifications, assembly drawings, and manufacturing instructions that provide clear, unambiguous guidance for production teams.
  • Manage design changes— investigate and action change requests and change notices, incorporating continuous improvement ideas into the product design change process in a timely, quality‑focused manner.
  • Support design quality and peer review— check your own work and contribute to peer reviews and scheduled design reviews with project engineers; understand contractual requirements and provide technical solutions in the event of conflicts.
  • Generate certification documentation— create and submit required design data to support machine and product certification for use in hazardous environments.

Who We're Looking For

You're a detail‑oriented CAD engineer with hands‑on experience in 3D modelling for electromechanical or rotating machine products — someone who takes ownership of their design work and understands what it takes to translate a model into something that can actually be manufactured.

Required

  • A qualification in Engineering — a Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND), degree, or equivalent.
  • A formal qualification is relevant to the structured design and certification work in this role; however, we are equally interested in your total experience and professional achievements — proven experience in a rotating electrical machines computer‑aided design (CAD) engineering environment will be strongly considered.
  • Solid working knowledge of 3D CAD modelling and assembly, including the creation of bill of materials (BoM) structures.
  • Proven expertise in PTC Creo and/or Windchill and/or AutoCAD for detailed design and drawing production.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) or enterprise resource planning (ERP) software such as Teamcenter or SAP.
  • Working knowledge of rotating electrical machines — their engineering challenges and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards including International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9000 and BS EN standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Legal authorisation to work in the United Kingdom — visa sponsorship availability will be assessed based on business and legal requirements.

Preferred

  • Sole British Nationality and current or previous Security Check (SC) clearance — certain project activities may require this.
  • Experience anticipating manufacturing challenges during the design phase — considering assembly methods, tolerances, and production constraints while modelling parts and assemblies.
  • A methodical, structured approach to design work with high attention to detail.

Security Clearance Note: Some aspects of this role may involve access to information or facilities requiring UK government Security Check (SC) clearance. Candidates who hold or have previously held SC clearance, or who are eligible to obtain it, are encouraged to apply. SC clearance requires sole British Nationality. If you are unsure whether this applies to your situation, please speak with the recruiter.
