Machine Operator 1 (Machine Shop) in Norwich

Responsibilities

• Operate hand tools such as scrapers, files, deburr-knife, burr-bits, emery cloth, etc.
• Operate mechanical equipment such as drill presses, turning equipment, sanding wheels & belts, buffing and grinding wheels; operate optical comparator.
• Perform visual inspection of parts subsequent to assembly steps.
• Verify and change tools when necessary; report problems to appropriate resources and/or Coach.
• Keep all team members informed on special problems involving operation or set up.
• Perform mechanical inspection to verify in process parts for conformance to print & specifications using standard measuring equipment; may assist with proto-type or first‑time builds.
• Assists the team in development and/or improvement of procedures and process sheets.
• Perform daily machine preventative maintenance.
• Keep equipment in operation by making timely adjustments.
• Utilize proper PPE, safety equipment, and follow safety procedures.
• Participate in and support team initiatives.
• Assists in Manual Machine Shop when needed.
• Proactively work to improve efficiency and quality of products.
• Understands and abides by the GE Behaviors.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED equivalency.
• Ability and willingness to use basic hand tools and measuring devices (i.e. – dial calipers, rulers, tape measures, protractors, micrometers, gauges, etc.) as required within department.
• Basic understanding of blueprint and process sheet interpretation.
• Prior working knowledge of machine shop operations, prior experience and usage of micrometer, calipers.
• Experience working with drill presses, turning equipment, sanding wheels & belts, buffing and grinding wheels.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in a self‑directed team environment.
• Familiarity with 5S and Lean manufacturing knowledge.

Physical Demands

• Ability to continuously use hands and fingers in repetition.
• Ability to continuously sit.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 20lbs; ability to push/pull up to 22lbs.

Benefits and Compensation

The pay for this position is $19.50/hr. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. The posting is expected to close on 3/31/26.
