We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager (known internally to GE as a Sub-Section Manager) to grow and develop our engineering talent and build inclusive, high-performing functional teams. You will lead and manage teams that design and develop our Controllers, Power Distribution or Cockpit Displays products based in Cheltenham. Your focus will be to work closely with your team day to day and be involved in the decisions on how work is completed. With this in mind, we require that you have a Software background in a formal/regulated development environment such as Aviation, Automotive or Healthcare. Your team will vary in size but typically be around 10 to 15 people. This is an exciting and varied role in which you will develop individual engineers and teams to be their very best. You will collaborate with Project Managers, Technical Leads and Chief Engineers to enable your team to deliver technically excellent products on time and to cost to our customers. You will also have a passion for, and a demonstrable record of impactful application of lean and continuous improvement.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, motivation, and technical direction for your team.
- Support, coach, develop and energise engineers through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback and relationships with others.
- Partner with Project Managers, Technical Leads and Chief Engineers to build and deliver on product roadmaps.
- Manage and co-ordinate outsource activities where additional resources are needed.
- Define and execute initiatives and department strategies, helping us be a great place to work now and for the future.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a formal/regulated engineering environment. This is a people focussed role so strong interpersonal skills are a must.
- Demonstrated effective team building ability.
- Demonstrated experience on delivery and cost improvements.
- Relevant degree from an accredited university or college or an equivalent amount of related experience.
