Job Description Summary
The Sustaining Engineering Leader leads a team of product support engineers to meet the technical needs of Dowty\’s customers both externally and internally. Working with the wider engineering team and the whole business, the team maintain the ongoing airworthiness of our in-service propeller systems and drive improvements and investigations.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Leadership, support and development of the product support engineering team, including: recruitment and induction of new PSE team members; team member career development and ongoing appraisal processes; training, coaching and mentoring for continuous improvement.
- Leadership of technical excellence within the team, including engagement with technical activities when required, and driving process improvements.
- Financial oversight, including budgeting and tracking of spend, approval of labour vouchering, travel expenses, project spend and other business processes.
- Engineering resource forecasting to support business processes and the engineering resource demand process.
- Interfacing with the production and maintenance organisations to ensure timely fulfilment of projects and actions and communication of activities.
- Upholding and developing strong Lean principles, approaches, standard work and daily management within the team; leading and supporting Lean activities and events to achieve business priorities.
- Communication and reporting through sustainment platform reviews, covering current status, investigations and general activities, business issues, risks and opportunities.
- Participation in the engineering leadership team to improve effectiveness, resolve issues, develop improved understanding and processes that better support the platform sustainment and overall business activities.
Required Qualifications
- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Functional Management. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master\’s degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
Desired Characteristics
- Experience in engineering product support in aerospace or similarly-regulated industry, ideally in a UKCAA/EASA Part-21 Design Organisation
- Technical background in complex systems including mechanical, aircraft control and/or electronic control systems, and a working knowledge of hydro-mechanical control systems would be advantageous.
- Strength in customer relationship management.
- Established project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems with a structured process mindset.
