Roles and Responsibilities

In the 12-month Commercial Operations Management Placement, you\’ll gain invaluable skills and experience in supporting and developing the processes and systems that keep our business operations teams at the cutting edge. The opportunities available will cover all aspects of supporting busy operations teams, including building relationships internally and externally, supporting customer proposals and/or sales/aftermarket, working on streamlining processes to drive efficiency and developing materials for customer events.

Your role could focus on enhancing customer experience and operational excellence. As a placement in Customer Operations Team, you will play a pivotal role in streamlining our operations to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. This position is designed to integrate the principles of SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost), Voice of the Customer, Profitability and Cash, and our FLIGHT DECK (GE\’s proprietary operating model) fundamentals into your daily activities, providing a comprehensive learning experience in an aerospace commercial environment.

There are a number of different types of roles within Commercial Operations, here is a snapshot of each:

  • Field Services – you will play a key role in supporting the team with administrative, commercial, pricing, and metrics-related tasks.
  • Customer Operations – Customer Order and Fulfilment. Supporting shop induction through Contract Review of all incoming work. Understanding business contracts, supporting new customer onboarding and resolving customer queries amongst other things.
  • Commercial Operations Team – you would be supporting business operations, including sales and programs, through the business deal process. Collaborating with the team to drive lean process improvements and enhance the customer experience and developing knowledge of the aerospace industry.
  • Commercial Operations Fulfilment – you will support the OE & Spares customer operations team by processing and resolving customer queries. You will provide a pivotal role in supporting the daily transactional processes in order to fulfil our customer requests.

You will be guided by structured goals and objectives and will have responsibility to deliver on inspiring projects supported by your People Leader and team around you. We will guide you throughout the year to ensure you make the best of your GE Aerospace experience. Your People Leader will offer coaching and mentoring, and you will be provided with the opportunity to connect with other placement students across the UK.

This opportunity is offered in our Gloucester (Dowty, a GE Aerospace company) site.

Dowty, a GE Aerospace company

Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, is based in Gloucestershire. It is a world-leading supplier of electronically controlled, composite propeller systems for a wide range of civil and military applications, including commercial airliners and military airlifters to multi-role seaplanes and marine hovercraft.

Key programs include the Lockheed Martin C-130J, the De-Haviland, Dash 8-400 and the Leonardo C-27J.

Operated by a highly skilled workforce, Dowty\’s in-house production expertise for composite blades includes application of resin transfer moulding processes, which have been continuously evolved and perfected since 1976; and the use of braiding machines that rapidly and accurately apply the blades\’ fibre outer layers.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Currently studying a Business Management/ Finance/ Accountancy/ Economics related Bachelor\’s or integrated Master\’s degree
  • Keen interest in Business Operations
  • On course to achieve a 2:1 degree or above
  • To be in your penultimate year of study and returning to education post placement
