This is an exciting role centred around the Mechanical Engineering discipline with exposure to various electronic systems, products and technologies. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide through-life product support and mechanical expertise for aviation electronic packaging products and components. They are the focal point for product improvements, obsolescence resolution, complex root cause and corrective action investigations and design changes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain design configuration, verify and qualify changes.
  • Support cost-out initiatives across multiple product platforms.
  • Lead product return investigations and maintain product performance and yield using failure reporting and corrective action systems to monitor and improve in-service and production systems.

Key Activities

  • Manage design changes via CAD, PLM and PDM systems, ensuring the appropriate level of data quality.
  • Lead investigations into technical issues resulting from production and in-service failures.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action through established problem-solving tools (e.g., 8D, Apollo, Fault Tree Analysis).
  • Provide technical support to the sourcing department for all component and supplier related issues.
  • Lead and manage the engineering activities related to supplier transitions and supplier development.
  • Provide technical support to the Quality department for all in-service questions and product returns ensuring full RCCA has been captured and implemented.
  • Identify and lead process improvement and material cost reduction initiatives.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Qualification to Degree level in a Mechanical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to use Siemens NX12 & Teamcenter, PTC Windchill or equivalent systems.
  • Experience of working in a design/design support role.
  • Strong design document & configuration knowledge.
  • Multifunctional & Multi cultural Team Working.
  • Experience in Engineering repair & production concession management.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
