Here at Dowty (a GE Aerospace company), we have an exciting fixed term contract to join our production team as a Production Controller. You will be responsible for converting the Master Production Schedule (MPS) into the Production Plan for our shop floor. You will set, manage and monitor the Production Plan in the 13-week execution window. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient flow of materials, timely release of clear kits, and adherence to schedule. You will be responsible for materials management of Work-In-Process (WIP) and the scheduling of this within ERP.
You will directly support our operational teams by ensuring any materials roadblocks or capacity constraints are contained and/or escalated to assure production continuity and process flow working collaboratively across supply chain and beyond. You will feed into sales order tracking to project best delivery dates that consider reasonable materials and capacity risks and feedback to the wider planning team on delivery performance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Convert MPS into the Production Schedule and set the 13-week plan within the execution window for all manufactured items at all stages of the Bill Of Materials (BOM) that ensures optimal resource utilization and on-time delivery.
- Manage and monitor the production plan daily with our operations team, providing status updates available to all levels of the business at any time.
- Track plan adherence and coordinate across multiple departments to ensure schedules are met.
- Ensure Work Orders are accurately created, released, and issued to the shop within our business planning system (ERP) considering material enablement status and the production schedule.
- Collaborate with stores to ensure timely release of kits to the shop that are clear to build.
- Coordinate and expedite flow of materials in line with production schedules to achieve work order on-time book to stock.
- Work closely with the wider materials and sourcing teams to ensure availability of required materials and prevent shortages or delays impacting the schedule.
- Partner with our operational team to take proactive action against bottlenecks and constraints using problem solving approach and daily management channels.
- Minimize inventory through Aged WIP management for responsible production areas, collaborate with the wider business to set, manage Pull Systems, Standard Work In Progress (SWIP) and Super Markets and report within daily management.
- Create and maintain Sales Order Delivery projections, tracking progress of all customer orders providing absolute best predicted delivery dates for all manufactured sales orders in the 13-week execution window in Line Of Balance (LOB) view and by unique sales order.
- Establish required standard operating rhythms for Production Control within the Materials Fulfilment Team that meets our strategic goals and monitor key processes through key performance indicators (KPI’s) reviewed within our daily management.
- Document said standard work.
- Identify areas for improvement in our Planning & Fulfilment processes, recommend and implement process changes to increase efficiency, reduce lead times and minimize costs by utilizing our Flight Deck Tool kit.
- Become a “super user” of our ERP system.
- Train and mentor team members.
- Be the delegate to the Materials Fulfilment Leader and provide leadership to more junior members of the team and extended Materials team.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, or equivalent knowledge and experience in supply chain manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of both ERP & MRP systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Established data analytical skills with the use of digital tools like Spotfire & Oracle.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to influence internally and externally.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities.
- Problem solving mindset.
