The Manufacturing Engineering Development Program (MEDP) is a 2-year development program in manufacturing focused on developing and accelerating technical expertise across the Supply Chain. Engineers in the MEDP will work in manufacturing engineering assignments to gain experience through a mix of on-the-job training and classroom education structured to provide a foundation of technical and leadership skills. You'll complete two 12-month assignments to cultivate growth in key technical disciplines and engineering responsibilities. In addition, the MEDP will foster mentorship and structured learning opportunities with our team of manufacturing experts. Upon completion, you will be ready for promotional opportunities to further advance in GE Aerospace.
This programme will be based at Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, in Gloucestershire. It is a world-leading supplier of electronically controlled, composite propeller systems for a wide range of civil and military applications, including commercial airliners and military airlifters to multi-role seaplanes and marine hovercraft. Key programs include the Lockheed Martin C-130J, the De-Haviland Dash 8-400 and the Leonardo C-27J. Operated by a highly skilled workforce, Dowty’s in-house production expertise for composite blades includes application of resin transfer moulding processes, which have been continuously evolved and perfected since 1976; and the use of braiding machines that rapidly and accurately apply the blades’ fibre outer layers.
Role Overview:
- Provide daily hands-on support to shop floor personnel to help facilitate problem-solving and process improvements related to production or development labs.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing skills and interpret blueprints to facilitate component manufacturing processes.
- Utilize various design and analytical software to support and improve manufacturing processes.
- Advance and develop manufacturing planning, processes and work instructions.
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements to improve product quality, increase throughput, and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Collect and analyze data from manufacturing processes to drive short- and long-term actions that support production.
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma tools to identify waste and support decision-making processes.
- Manage project plans related to manufacturing changes and collaborate with various functions to drive action and project closure.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related Engineering degree.
- Predicted or achieved academic success of a 2,1 degree or above.
- A related placement or internship experience preferably at GE Aerospace.
