In the 12-month Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Placement, you'll gain invaluable skills and experience, providing support to all areas of the site including office functions, operations, and engineering, and promoting and implementing EHS policies and procedures internally and externally to maintain EHS regulations/legislations.

You will provide environment, health, and safety support to our Cheltenham facility. Within the role, you will work collaboratively to solve problems, develop and execute objectives, and achieve short-term and long-term site EHS goals.

The specific activities you could be involved in are the following:

  • Provide day-to-day EHS support to the site, with specific responsibilities for assigned business units and functional departments.
  • Work together with the EHS team and business leadership to drive outcomes and a strong EHS culture.
  • Coordinate with consultants and contractors on EHS-related items.
  • Work cross-functionally to identify and address safety and health issues related to site operations.
  • Manage and arrange the EHS Committee for the site, in conjunction with other team members.
  • Lead environmental and sustainability projects, play an active role in the site Sustainability Committee and Green Team.
  • Lead EcoWeek activities and complete reviews of the site air, waste and water programmes.
  • Develop environmental, hazardous and process waste stream mapping/flowcharts and update the site environmental impact assessments.
  • Complete risk assessments, chemical assessments, develop and write procedures and deliver EHS training.
  • Lead the site first aid and fire marshall programmes, arranging training and maintaining up to date communications and records.
  • Lead on IT EHS applications, including training, Spotfire reporting, workflow development and maintaining/updating the EHS and Occupational Health Intranet sites.

You will be guided by structured goals and objectives and will have responsibility to deliver on inspiring projects supported by your People Leader and team around you. We will guide you throughout the year to ensure you make the best of your GE Aerospace experience. Your People Leader will offer coaching and mentoring, and you will be provided with the opportunity to connect with other placement students across the UK.

This opportunity is offered in our Cheltenham site. With over 1,700 employees, GE Aerospace based in Cheltenham is one of the largest sites outside the USA and a major contributor to the local economy.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Currently studying an Environmental Management related bachelor’s or master’s degree including Environmental/Environmental Management/Chemical/Sustainability/Environment Health and Safety or similar.
  • On course or achieved a 2:1 degree.
  • To be in your penultimate year of study and returning to education post placement.
  • Passionate about EHS.
