About the Role: GDS Partners are recruiting for an experienced HSEQ Manager to join an established Specialist Contractor delivering projects across the construction, rail, aviation and major infrastructure sectors. Based in Essex, this is a senior, hands-on position with responsibility for leading and continuously improving Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards across the business. The position is mostly office-based with some site visits. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and operational teams, combining strategic HSEQ management with a strong presence across live projects and operational sites. Key Responsibilities: Lead and continuously improve the company's HSEQ management systems and procedures. Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety and environmental legislation. Manage and maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems. Lead site inspections, audits, risk assessments and compliance reviews. Manage incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Oversee contractor and supply-chain HSEQ compliance. Lead internal audits and coordinate external, client and regulatory audits. Monitor HSEQ performance, trends and KPIs, reporting findings to senior management. Develop and deliver HSEQ training, briefings and awareness programmes. Promote a positive Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental culture across the business Requirements Proven experience in an HSEQ, SHEQ, QHSE, HSE or EHS management role within construction. Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements. Experience managing ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems. NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification. Strong experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations and risk assessments. Experience managing contractors, suppliers and multiple stakeholders. Previous experience within construction, infrastructure or another high-hazard environment. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage effectively at site and senior-management level. Lead Auditor qualification would be advantageous. Rail, aviation, industrial or major infrastructure experience would be beneficial. Experience with FORS, RISQS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, Achilles or CIRAS would be advantageous.
