GDS Partners are recruiting an HSE Lead on behalf of a leading Building Services Engineering contractor, for a permanent position based in London with regular travel across the UK.

Our client is a well-established Building Services Engineering contractor delivering complex Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Services projects across the UK. With an excellent reputation for quality, innovation, and safety, they continue to grow across a diverse portfolio of commercial, healthcare, education, residential, and industrial projects.

About the Role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental professional to take ownership of HSE performance across multiple projects nationwide. The successful candidate will lead a team of HSE Advisors while supporting project teams across London, Birmingham, Bristol, and Northern Ireland. The role is primarily London-based but will require regular travel to projects throughout the UK, including monthly visits to the company's head office.

Main Duties:

  • Lead and develop the company's Health, Safety & Environmental strategy across multiple live projects.
  • Manage, mentor, and support a team of HSE Advisors across the UK.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure full compliance with current health and safety legislation, company procedures, and client requirements.
  • Review and approve RAMS, permits, and other HSE documentation.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor HSE performance, producing reports and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Promote a positive and proactive safety culture across all business operations.
  • Build strong relationships with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and senior leadership teams.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and technical support to operational teams on all HSE matters.
  • Support external audits and maintain compliance with ISO management systems where applicable.

Requirements:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Membership of IOSH (desirable).
  • Previous experience managing HSE teams across multiple projects.
  • Strong Building Services, M&E, or Construction background.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections, incident investigations, and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to travel nationwide, including monthly visits to the head office.
