About the role

  • GDS Group deliver in excess of 2000 virtual events annually across both its stage and screen formats, the Studio Production Manager will lead the company’s studio operations as part of a wider strategic leadership team – focused on driving operational excellence across all facets of live production from its state-of-the-art studio facilities.
  • The Studio Production Manager will have operational ownership of GDS Group’s broadcast studios, responsible for the day-to-day running of studios and crews across a busy schedule of global productions – including live production delivery, studio workflows, resource mapping, inventory management, production traffic and operational administration.
  • As the Studio Production Manager, you will collaborate with the company’s in-house Technical Production, Design, Video, Producer and Presenting teams – with direct reporting accountability for all in-studio technical functions – to control the successful delivery of studio outputs to exceptional standards.
  • In addition, you will be the leading light of GDS Group\'s studio innovation – pushing the boundaries of what’s technically possible in virtual and mixed reality environments and championing the company’s position as a leading virtual events provider.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the continuous uptime of the studio and its delivery mechanisms during working hours, including redundancy and contingency operating procedures
  • Planning and management of the studio’s daily activities and outputs, ensuring the smooth running of all workflows, delivery mechanisms and administrative processes, driving efficiencies and innovation
  • Management of all in-studio teams, including collaboration across HR, recruitment, training and ownership of in-studio team KPIs
  • Working in partnership with GDS Group’s COO, Finance Director & VP Procurement to ensure studio budgeting and associated cost controls align with the company’s P&L
  • Controlling the master studio schedule against a pre-defined, weekly volume requirement across GDS Group’s and Jugo core products – working closely with Sales & Product leaders to identify scheduling efficiencies and overcome scheduling conflicts
  • Ownership of crew, equipment and facilities resource mapping aligned to the studio’s master schedule
  • Maintaining a black book of freelance contacts across both core and supporting production functions
  • Troubleshooting on production and technical challenges with both in-studio and operational delivery teams, providing viable solutions to unique situations
  • Managing the ongoing equipment and inventory requirements of the studio’s stages and back-office functions – including the sourcing, negotiation and management of equipment with third party suppliers
  • Acting as the conduit between technical and content production teams to consult on new and continuously evolving live production innovations
  • Championing GDS Group’s studio facility as an innovation house and leading provider of disruptive live production formats for the virtual events marketplace

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing a TV/film/broadcast/virtual studio facility and production crews ,ability to understand and maximise opportunities using latest delivery software, familiarity of Unreal Engine and Aximmetry would be advantageous.
  • Experience of managing teams and providing leadership that resonates – from training and support to performance and outputs – with aligned KPIs and success metrics
  • A balance of technical production, operational and commercial prowess
  • Exceptional production management experience of workflows, kit, capabilities and specialisms
  • Innately organised with critical attention to detail
  • Proactive problem-solving with a drive to continuous streamline production efficiencies
  • An ability to balance commercial goals with the principle of efficient and well-planned production
  • Articulate with strong stakeholder communications and able to control SLAs with both internal and external parties
  • A passion for live studio production and an interest in the future of virtual live experiences
