GDi are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Surveyor to join our team, based in our offices in Aberdeen. Reporting to the Survey Manager, this position is responsible for carrying out Surveying for Global Design Innovation Ltd, and any other company as may be added to GDi’s portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a passion to learn and develop within this role.

Key Activities and Accountabilities:

  • Assist in carrying out a wide range of surveys in line with relevant procedures
  • Conduct pre-mobilisation checks on survey and scanning equipment
  • Maintain equipment
  • Assist with resolving Survey queries; responding to technical queries and media creation for clients and GDi personnel within appropriate timescales; data downloads requests
  • Under supervision you will be required to carry out laser scanning on clients onshore/offshore assets as per GDi procedures
  • Process all captured data and prepare final deliverables
  • Perform QA/QC analysis
  • Modelling of 3D data into 2D and 3D CAD drawings and reports as required
  • Preparing & checking of drawings and 3D models
  • Operate survey software and monitor the data quality to ensure the survey specification is achieved
  • Achieve the target and completion within the budget and schedule; ensuring that all survey work is carried out in accordance with priorities and schedules
  • Report job progress. Identification of increase or reduction in scope.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Awareness of or developing experience as a Land/Engineering Surveyor
  • Understanding of the application of aspects of Surveying including techniques, error propagation and datums.
  • Awareness of implications of environmental conditions and effects on survey systems and data
  • Knowledge of calibration requirements and procedures of the survey systems and sensors
  • Capacity to understand client requirements and scopes of work and ensure that the Scope of Work and contract deliverables are fully understood.
  • Foster positive and effective working relationships with Clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Awareness/developing ability to operate survey software systems and Microsoft packages
  • Capacity to develop skills with geomatics and point cloud processing packages (Leica Cyclone, Faro Scene, LFM, Recap).
  • Good interpersonal skills - Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to travel in UK and abroad, as well as offshore
  • Role will involve working away from home for periods of time, predominantly in the North Sea with opportunities to work onshore/offshore internationally

Qualifications & Certification:

  • Essential: Work experience. National 5 or equivalent in English and maths preferred
  • Preferred: BSc in Surveying or other relevant qualification
