GCU UK Ltd is continuing to expand its Full Fibre (FTTP) delivery portfolio and is seeking experienced Poling Gangs to support ongoing network build programmes across Southwest England. This work forms part of large‑scale fibre roll‑out projects supporting future‑proof telecoms infrastructure.

The role will involve the installation, replacement and reinforcement of telecoms poles to support overhead fibre networks, working in line with industry standards, safety legislation and client specifications.

The Role

Working as part of a dedicated poling gang, you will carry out all aspects of telecoms pole installation and associated civils activities on live networks. This includes excavation, pole placement, backfilling and reinstatement, as well as supporting overhead fibre build activity. You will be required to work safely in public highways, rural locations and private land, maintaining high standards of workmanship and professionalism at all times.

What we expect of you

We expect you to demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety, with the ability to work on the public highway and around live utilities in a safe and controlled manner. You should be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and be willing to travel across Southwest England as required by the programme. A professional attitude when working around members of the public, landowners and clients is essential, as is the ability to complete work efficiently while meeting quality and programme expectations. Accurate completion of site paperwork and job records will also be required.

What you will bring

You will bring proven experience working within the UK telecommunications sector, ideally on FTTP or similar fibre projects. Essential qualifications include NRSWA Street Works accreditation, CAT and Genny training in line with HSG47 for underground service avoidance, and recognised telecoms safety accreditations such as Smart Awards for overhead and underground working. Experience in telecoms poling activities on live networks is critical for this role. Desirable attributes include Openreach or Openreach‑aligned accreditations, previous experience on overhead fibre builds, and familiarity with working in rural and semi‑rural locations. Additional plant or civils qualifications such as CPCS or NPORS tickets will be viewed positively. A full UK driving licence is required, along with good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a gang.
