We are looking for an organised, proactive and people-focused Assistant Transport Manager to join our team and play a key role in keeping our transport operation running safely, smoothly and efficiently. If you enjoy a fast‑paced environment, have a passion for delivering great service, and want to develop your career in transport management with the support of an experienced Senior Transport Manager, this role offers an excellent opportunity to grow and make a real impact.

What you will do

  • Support the Senior Transport Manager in the smooth and compliant running of daily transport operations across the fleet (including cars, vans and HGVs).
  • Help to coordinate vehicle availability, schedule routine maintenance, and maintain accurate records to ensure that vehicles, drivers and associated activities meet all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with monitoring driver hours, analysing tachograph data, checking licence and training compliance, and ensuring that vehicle defects, inspections and documentation are followed up promptly and correctly.
  • Play an active part in day-to-day planning and routing, helping to allocate resources efficiently and supporting the Senior Transport Manager in maintaining service levels for internal teams.
  • Contribute to driver briefings and debriefs, help address operational issues as they arise, and support the management of performance, conduct and absence in line with company policies.
  • Assist with promoting safe working practices, encouraging a positive safety culture and supporting compliance with workplace and road safety procedures.
  • Help to monitor operational performance, costs and service quality, escalating concerns where required and supporting the implementation of improvements agreed with the Senior Transport Manager.
  • Liaise with drivers, workshop teams, contractors and suppliers as needed to ensure effective communication and timely resolution of issues.
  • Provide hands-on support that keeps the transport function running effectively, legally and efficiently each day.

What you will bring

  • Experience working within a transport, logistics or fleet environment, ideally in a transport office, planning, or coordination role.
  • A solid understanding of transport compliance and safety principles, including drivers’ hours, tachograph use, vehicle inspections and basic Operator’s Licence requirements, with the ability to follow established procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Confidence in communicating with drivers and operational teams and comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Good IT skills, including the ability to use transport systems, telematics, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organisational abilities, attention to detail and a calm, problem-solving approach under pressure.
  • A full driving licence is essential, and a Transport Manager CPC (or working towards it) is a strong advantage.
  • A willingness to learn, take responsibility for your part in the operation, and contribute positively to an inclusive and collaborative working environment.
