Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Our client is a well-established national provider of site solutions and services to the UK construction and infrastructure sectors. As part of their continued growth within major projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced Strategic Account Manager to manage and develop a portfolio of high-value contractor and project-led accounts across East Anglia, Essex and East London.

The position will have particular responsibility for a major, long-term infrastructure project in East Anglia, alongside approximately 5-10 strategically important customers across the wider region. This is a substantial account management and development role, with responsibility for a portfolio worth approximately £5-6 million. The focus is not simply maintaining existing business, but identifying opportunities to increase share of spend, broaden the range of solutions supplied and develop relationships across multiple levels within major contractor accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of major strategic accounts worth approximately £5-6 million.
  • Manage and develop relationships with Tier 1 contractors and major project customers operating across construction and infrastructure.
  • Take a leading account management role on a significant, long-term infrastructure project in East Anglia, with regular site and customer engagement.
  • Develop detailed account plans identifying key stakeholders, current spend, forthcoming projects, potential opportunities and areas for growth.
  • Build relationships across multiple levels of customer organisations, from site and project teams through to procurement, commercial and senior management contacts.
  • Identify opportunities to increase share of wallet within existing accounts by introducing additional products, services and site solutions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customers' project pipelines, enabling the business to engage at an early stage and maximise opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their operational requirements, programme demands and changing site needs.
  • Coordinate activity across internal sales, operations, hire, transport and service teams to ensure major accounts receive a consistently high level of support.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and support pricing, tender and contract discussions while protecting margin and delivering sustainable account growth.
  • Monitor account performance against agreed revenue, margin and growth objectives, taking action where opportunities or potential issues are identified.
  • Maintain visibility of competitor activity and identify opportunities to increase the company's presence within strategically important accounts and projects.
  • Develop relationships beyond individual projects to create longer-term opportunities across customers' regional and national operations.
  • Provide accurate forecasts, account updates and pipeline information to senior management.
  • Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, project reviews and other relevant industry events.

Candidate Profile:

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience gained within plant hire, tool hire, site accommodation/welfare, temporary site infrastructure, power generation or another closely related hire/service environment. You are likely to have worked as a Strategic Account Manager, National Account Manager, Major Account Manager, Key Account Manager or senior Business Development Manager, with demonstrable experience developing substantial contractor accounts. Experience dealing with Tier 1 contractors and major construction or infrastructure projects will be particularly relevant.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • A strong track record of managing and growing high-value B2B accounts.
  • Experience dealing with complex customer organisations involving multiple stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Commercial awareness, including pricing, margin and contract negotiation.
  • The ability to identify and convert opportunities across a broad customer account rather than focusing on individual transactions.
  • Experience working with operational teams to deliver against demanding customer and project requirements.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the credibility to engage with senior commercial and procurement contacts.
  • A proactive, organised approach to account planning and pipeline development.

The role is predominantly field and home based, covering East Anglia, Essex and East London. Regular attendance at a major project in East Anglia will form an important part of the position.

Package: £60,000+ basic salary, with flexibility for the right individual, plus 20-25% bonus and company car.
