The role
As a Supplier Assurance Technologist for GCL Food Ingredients based in Newthorpe, you’ll be joining an industry leader and performing various duties within our ever growing production facility.
Established in 1964, GCL Food Ingredients is a manufacturer and supplier to both foodservice and industrial customers. We aim to work closely with both our customers and suppliers to create a food chain partnership. This brings together all NPD teams to work not only on innovation and market trends but to help inspire the next generation of meals to our client’s consumers.
Responsibilities
- Managing the raw material approval process, execution of supplier assurance processes, including obtaining supplier documentation, alerts, certifications, and responses to questionnaires
- Maintaining materials and packaging specifications, questionnaires, lists and certifications (e.g. BRC, ISO, GFSI).
- Working closely with colleagues in NPD and Purchasing, carrying out risk assessments for any new materials proposed for the site.
- Partnering with suppliers to ensure they meet KPIs and working with them to address any challenges or issues.
- Responding to customer enquiries regarding raw materials or packaging in a timely manner.
- Manage specification discussions with raw material suppliers to ensure accuracy, compliance and timely completion of documentation.
- Ensuring chain of custody requirements are maintained by validating and evidencing provenance claims to support compliance and traceability.
- Support Product Development team in uploading finished product specifications and ensuring timely approvals.
- Supporting the Product Development Team as a super user of the specification system.
- Be responsible for raising supplier non-conformances and co‑ordinating with the supplier to investigate, resolve and close out issues in a timely manner.
- Keep abreast of and stay up to date with changes to product labelling requirements and food safety legislation, ensuring ongoing compliance across all products.
- Ensure all materials have a live and up to date QAS.
Requirements
- Experience in a similar technical role in a food manufacturing environment
- Advanced Excel skills and experience in specification systems
- A high attention to detail.
- Experience working in a fast paced environment.
- Good standard of English & is numerate
- Ideally a degree level (or equivalent) in Food
- Ideally Advanced level HACCP
- Ideally Advanced Food Hygiene
- Skills to be adaptable and can support other members of the technical team when required.
- Works well under pressure.
- Enjoys working independently and as part of a wider developing and growing team
