The predicted salary is between 32000 - 32000 £ per year.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week: 08.30am – 16.30pm (although this may vary with demands of the role)

Working Days: Monday – Friday

Site Based - Full Time - Permanent

As a Raw Material Technologist for GCL Food Ingredients based in Newthorpe, Nottingham, NG16 3PX, you’ll be joining an industry leader and performing various duties within our ever-growing production facility. Established in 1964, GCL Food Ingredients is a manufacturer and supplier to both foodservice and industrial customers. We aim to work closely with both our customers and suppliers to create a food chain partnership.

The role: Our Raw Material Technologist plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the company’s raw material and supplier database, ensuring all materials and suppliers meet stringent quality, legal, and food safety standards. This position oversees compliance with customer requirements, audit protocols and legislative obligations while maintaining a comprehensive and accessible system for raw material and packaging information.

Main Duties will involve:

  • Managing the introduction and ongoing maintenance of suppliers and ensuring all raw materials and ingredients coming to the site are of the correct specification and quality.
  • Managing the raw material approval process.
  • Working closely with colleagues in NPD and Purchasing, you will carry out risk assessments for any new materials proposed for the site.
  • Maintaining materials and packaging specifications, questionnaires, lists and certifications (e.g BRC, ISO, GFSI).
  • Partnering with suppliers to ensure they meet KPIs and working with them to address any challenges or issues.
  • Responding to customer enquiries regarding raw materials or packaging in a timely manner.
  • Managing specifications discussions with raw material suppliers.
  • Working closely with specification team members to ensure consistent standards for specifications/systems are maintained.
  • Ensuring chain of custody - provenance claims etc.
  • Support Product Development team in uploading finished product specifications and ensuring timely approvals.
  • Ensuring materials are trial approved prior to ordering specifications.
  • Supporting creation and upload on to the specification system.
  • Supporting the product development team as a super user of the specification system.
  • Be responsible for raising supplier non-conformances and co-ordinating with the supplier to close these out.
  • Keeping up to date with any changes to labelling requirements for all products & food safety legislation.
  • Ensure all materials have a live and up to date QAS.
  • Work with the goods in team in ensuring intake checks and process are sufficient to ensure that incoming raw materials and packaging have the correct checks in place to meet the requirements of our customers.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar role in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience in specification systems.
  • A high attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment.
  • Good standard of English & is numerate.
  • Ideally a degree level (or equivalent) in Food.
  • Ideally Advanced level HACCP.
  • Ideally Advanced Food Hygiene.
  • Skills to be adaptable and can support other members of the technical team when required.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • High attention to detail to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Enjoys working independently and as part of a wider developing and growing team.
