About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be a personal assistant to a happy bubbly non‑verbal child, who loves being outdoors, in spaces where there are no other people, such as a park, beach or field and he enjoys going on adventures. He enjoys playing with small figures, watching his iPad and looking at books when he is not absorbed in nature.

Every day is unique, but activities might include a trip to Sealife, trips to Dobbie’s Garden Centre, farm parks or other fun places or simply spending quality time at home singing and playing music. Being positive and enthusiastic is key to this position.

A large percentage of his communication is through his body language, stims and vocalisations. He thrives on routine and predictability and can find it hard when things don’t go according to his plan, hence why his mother is never too far away. The largest aim for having a personal assistant is to help develop confidence in and around social settings which currently can be challenging.

As part of your role assistance with personal hygiene will be required as he is doubly incontinent, and wears pull ups/pads at all times, he tries to be independent as far as possible but requires full support when it comes to personal care.

Oliver can run and walk well, though requires to use a wheelchair/buggy as he struggles if he is walking any distances and requires constant supervision to ensure his safety at all times, measures in place already to support PA.

If you are kind, caring, empathetic, compassionate, considerate, patient, with good interpersonal skills, and likes making a positive difference, you might be the perfect fit for this role.

Oliver lives in the Carluke area, so it’s important you’re comfortable working in this area and he also has a small dog therefore being comfortable around dogs is essential.

Hours and Pay

  • Part‑time role of 5 hours a week, with flexibility around how those hours are arranged. Ideal for someone who may have more flexibility to work during school holiday hours.
  • Rate: £12.60 per hour.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with children with complex medical needs and Autism is essential.
  • A driving licence is preferred to help with transport, but this isn’t essential.
