We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable Support Worker to support Liam, a happy, playful and strong-willed young man based in Rutherglen. Liam enjoys life’s simple pleasures – watching movies (especially Disney!), music videos, enjoying sweeties and takeaways, and spending time with his favourite teddies and soft toys. He has a big interest in dinosaurs, animals, and anything to do with the under the sea and water. Liam also loves outings such as trips to the zoo and swimming, as well as using his tablet.

About Liam
Liam has autism, a learning disability, and limited vocabulary. He communicates in his own way and benefits from support that is calm, respectful and responsive to his needs.

The Role
You will provide 1:1 support to help Liam:

  • Access activities he enjoys within the community
  • Build confidence when interacting with other people
  • Some support with personal care

A big part of this role is taking time to get to know Liam, following his lead, and supporting him at his pace.

Hours
Wednesday & Thursday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
Friday: 10:00am – 1:00pm
In addition, one week per month you will work a substitute weekend day:

  • Thursday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • Friday: 10:00am – 1:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am – 2:00pm

About You
Patient, understanding and approachable
Able to build trust without encroaching
Responsive to Liam’s moods and communication
Confident using de-escalation techniques or willing to learn
Reliable and committed to providing consistent support

Experience supporting people with autism or learning disabilities is desirable but not essential – the right attitude is most important.
