A sensitive, energetic 14 year old teenager named Zack requires a female Personal Care Assistant to provide community support. He has neurological disabilities and lives in the Motherwell area with his parents, sister and three dogs. You would be required to provide one-to-one care and assistance in the community, including helping with personal care and participation in social activities. His favourite activities are trampolining, visiting farm parks, playing the Xbox, iPad and phone, cuddling his dogs, going for walks in parks and nature, eating out and helping in the kitchen.

Your duties would involve assisting with tasks such as:

  • Prompting and assisting with toileting
  • Walking and general exercise, such as swimming and trampolining
  • Going out for food
  • Closely supervise when out
  • Going on trains and to places of interest
  • Any other daily living tasks to promote independent living

Must understand routine and planning is important. Safety is a priority when supporting the young man, as he has no road safety awareness and can be overwhelmed in crowds. ITP condition means any injury must be reported to his parents immediately. Encouragement, enjoying time out of the home, being a good role model by helping to build his confidence, would be the aim of your job. Important qualities are a warm and friendly nature and a desire to work within a caring role. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Pets in the household – you must be comfortable working with dogs in the home. Driver with a full UK driving licence is essential and you will be required to use your own vehicle – mileage allowance will be paid. Experience of autism and first aid training is essential.

Hours of Work (with a degree of flexibility): Recruiting for 1 position. Guaranteed permanent position of 4 hours per week. Days and times: Typically, hours would be on a Sunday and are flexible, for example 11:00am – 5:00pm. Hourly rate: Β£12.60 per hour.
