Options for Care is looking to recruit an exceptional Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses. We seek a self‑motivated and caring individual who will make a positive contribution to the well‑being of our patients through the delivery of high quality, evidence‑based care. Candidates should have a recovery‑focused ethos and be ready to commit to building and sustaining therapeutic relationships and positive engagement with patients.

Key areas of focus include occupational performance, complex mental health presentations, risk management and evaluating outcomes aligned to personalised care plans. A therapeutic programme of individual and group interventions will be delivered in collaboration with OT assistants, activity workers and the multi‑disciplinary team for effective recovery and discharge. The role also offers opportunities to innovate and improve occupational therapy delivery for service users.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy department for complex care rehabilitation service users.
  • Provide assessment and treatment of occupational needs under the supervision of a senior OT while working collaboratively within the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Promote and support service users to achieve aspirations by applying the organisation’s mission, vision and values.
  • Complete the occupational therapy process with indirect supervision, seeking direct support where required.
  • Hold a caseload and maintain occupation at the centre of practice through effective clinical decision‑making and skills.
  • Conduct full and holistic assessments of occupational performance, including self‑care, productivity and leisure.
  • Facilitate a range of group and individual interventions to meet therapeutic goals within the unit and local community.
  • Implement inclusive practices, manage risk positively, and provide education and support to service users, carers and colleagues.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation – notes, care plans, evaluations, MDT summaries, CPA reports.
  • Reflect on practice, pursue continuous professional development, and contribute to educational resources and professional networks.
  • Support OT assistants and activity workers, supervise induction of new staff, and ensure compliance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics, HCPC standards and relevant legislation.
  • Participate in evidence‑based practice, audit, quality improvement and service evaluation projects.
  • Manage equipment, maintain stock and ensure resources are available for therapeutic activities.
  • Attend statutory and mandatory training as required by Options for Care Ltd and provide OT cover across sites when necessary.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy or equivalent Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with HCPC.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of OT.
  • Good understanding of group work, a range of interventions and current mental health legislation.
  • Proficiency in assessment, OT process and reflective practice.
  • Experience of risk assessment and management.
  • Desirable: 6 months experience working in mental health, inpatient rehabilitation or recovery settings.
  • Desirable: Food Safety Level 2 and membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
