Options for Care provides mental health recovery services in Birmingham. Our primary objective is to empower service users and help them realise their full potential through progressive improvements in their quality of life and a steady progression towards recovery, culminating in successful discharge.

We offer best practice interventions to enable personal recovery and well-being. The individual is at the heart of everything we do. We deliver and continuously evaluate high-quality service whilst respecting difference, promoting dignity and supporting the privacy of others.

Our two established hospitals, Montague Court and Dartmouth House, have successfully supported the needs of individuals with mental health diagnoses and we are due to open Stanford Court, a High Dependency Unit, in the new year. Orchard House is our recovery home which provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their journey to mental health recovery.

Dartmouth House is a 16-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham. Montague Court is an 18-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Stanford Court will be a 19-bed male mental health high dependency inpatient unit based in Highgate, Birmingham. Orchard House is an 8-bed residential step-down service based in Erdington, Birmingham, which allows extension of the long-term complex care pathway.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a genuine passion for working with people with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses and a similar passion for supporting staff to deliver an exceptional service. You must be able to work core hours, predominantly 09:00-17:00, with a usual working week of Monday-Friday whilst taking part in the on-call duty management rota.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day operational management and delivering high-quality mental health services to residents with severe and enduring mental health needs.
  • Managing staff, clinical quality, and delivery of consistently high standards.
  • Oversee the unit’s governance through clinical audit and offer frontline clinical leadership alongside active contribution as a senior management team member.
  • Provide effective leadership to ensure positive outcomes for the service and residents, and promote recovery principles to improve quality of life and achieve maximum independence.
  • Work with residents delivering person-centred care, supporting community integration, and balancing safety and therapeutic risk-taking.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential

  • Computer literate with excellent oral and written communication skills and active listening skills.
  • Supervisory/leadership skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and information handling skills.
  • Experience of managing and supervising a staff team.
  • Leadership skills including supervision and appraisal.
  • Understanding and ability to interpret budgets.
  • Working knowledge of CPA, MHA, MCA and Clinical Governance.
  • Demonstrated understanding of CQC regulations and responsibilities.
  • Level 3 Health and Social Care.
  • Care Certificate.

Desirable

  • Line management.
  • Supervision clinical and managerial.
  • Previous CQC registration as a registered manager.
  • Understanding of closed culture, restrictive practice and how to manage change.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace.
  • Level 5 Health and Social Care.

Experience

  • Experience of managing and supervising a staff team.
  • Leadership skills including supervision and appraisal.
  • Understanding and ability to interpret budgets.
  • Working knowledge of CPA, MHA, MCA and Clinical Governance.
  • Demonstrated understanding of CQC regulations and responsibilities.
