Options for Care is looking to recruit an exceptional Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses. We are seeking a self‐motivated and caring professional who can make a positive contribution to patient well‐being through the delivery of high‐quality, evidence‐based care. Candidates should have a recovery‐focused ethos, be willing to build and sustain therapeutic relationships, and be committed to personalised care plans.

The role focuses on occupational performance, complex mental‐health presentations, risk management, and outcome evaluation. Interventions are delivered individually and in groups in collaboration with OT assistants, activity workers and the multi‐disciplinary team. Opportunities exist to develop new ideas for occupational therapy delivery.

We operate across several sites: Montague Court, Dartmouth House and the upcoming Stanford Court (high‐dependency unit), as well as Orchard House (recovery home).

Responsibilities

As an integrated member of the MDT, you will:

  • Complete the occupational therapy process with indirect supervision, seeking direct support when needed.
  • Manage a caseload, using effective clinical decision‐making to assess, treat and evaluate care that meets service‐user needs in a timely manner.
  • Conduct full and holistic assessments of occupational performance (self‐care, productivity, leisure).
  • Facilitate individual and group interventions to meet therapeutic goals within the unit and the local community.
  • Promote participation, inclusivity and the rights of service users and their families, in line with their choices.
  • Exercise professional judgement for risk management, including positive risk‐taking.
  • Provide education, advice and support to service users, carers and colleagues as appropriate, within the remit of OT.
  • Complete all clinical documentation (notes, care plans, MDT summaries, CPA reports) in accordance with policy and professional standards.
  • Reflect on practice and pursue continuous professional development, recording CPD activities and their impact.
  • Support and supervise OT assistants or activity workers; assist in induction of new staff.
  • Ensure compliance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics, HCPC standards, and relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Programme Approach).
  • Manage workload autonomously, prioritising tasks and resources effectively in complex environments.
  • Participate in evidence, research and development activities: audits, quality improvement projects, data collection, and professional networking.
  • Maintain registration with the Health Care Professions Council and promote collaborative working relationships with internal and external agencies.
  • Support occupational therapy cover across Options for Care sites as required.

  • BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy or a Diploma in Occupational Therapy; Registration with HCPC.

  • Food Safety Level 2 qualification.
  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
  • Experience working in mental health, especially in inpatient rehabilitation or recovery settings.
  • Experience in audit, quality improvement and service evaluation projects.
