Overview
We’re looking for friendly and confident bar / hospitality staff to work at The Catford House, an innovative new community pub in the heart of Catford. We have a range of full and part time roles and are seeking candidates who are residents of the borough of Lewisham, and are looking for a new challenge within the hospitality / non-profit sector. Long term unemployed / parents / carers are particularly encouraged to apply, and we are open to conversations about flexible shift work to fit around your current commitments, contingent on the needs of the rota.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to bring their experience of pub / bar work to the non-profit sector, gain new skills around community support and to exercise creativity to ensure that all customers and service users have a memorable experience, and continually hold the Catford House in positive regard. You must be able to work days and evenings on a 7-day rota.
£13.85 per hour, full and part time roles available.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service & Front-of-House Duties
- Greet customers with a friendly and professional attitude
- Always create a welcoming and inclusive environment
- Develop rapport with customers in a cordial and welcoming fashion
- Take orders for food and drinks
- Serve beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) promptly and correctly
- Recommend drinks, promotions, or menu items when asked
- Uphold licence requirements including challenge 25
- Proactively deal with challenging behaviour
- Ensure full service is provided to all customers by awareness of individual needs
- Provide efficient table ordering and service
- Till, Payments & Order Processing
- Use EPOS systems to take and process payments
- Handle cash, card, and contactless transactions accurately
- Maintain float and ensure tills are balanced at end of shift
- Issue receipts and change correctly
- Manage tabs (opening, tracking, and closing)
- Drink Preparation
- Pour beers, wines, and spirits to legal measures
- Mix cocktails to menu specifications or customer requests
- Make hot drinks (Barista training provided)
- Restock garnishes, mixers, and bar consumables
- Cleanliness & Hygiene
- Comply with the full cleaning schedule throughout the day
- Always comply with COSHH requirements
- Keep the bar area tidy, clean, and hygienic during service
- Ensure cleaning meets health and safety procedures and compliance
- Wash glassware using bar dishwasher or manual methods
- Empty bins and dispose of waste in line with hygiene standards, recycling, and licensing requirements
- Comply with food safety, hygiene, and allergen legislation & procedures
- Monitor and clean toilets throughout the day according to the cleaning schedule
- Stock & Inventory
- Restock fridges, spirits, and other drink items during the shift
- Rotate stock (FIFO)
- Check keg/cellar supplies and report shortages
- Assist with deliveries and stock takes as needed

- Provide support at pub events (quizzes, live music, private functions)
- Support private bookings
- Support the pub’s communications strategy, including SM posts or promotion materials
