This is a full-time, on-site role for a Window & Door Service Engineer (Surveying & Repairs) based in Greater London. The Surveyor & Engineer will play a key role in assessing, repairing, and replacing parts on a wide range of window and door systems. This position combines detailed inspections with hands-on technical expertise to ensure all repair and replacement works are completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and precision.

In the surveying aspect of the role, you will carry out thorough inspections of windows and doors to identify faults, damaged components, and areas requiring replacement or adjustment. You will take precise measurements, evaluate the condition and performance of existing installations, and prepare detailed reports that outline findings and recommended corrective actions.

In the engineering aspect of the role, you will be responsible for completing repairs and replacements on various window and door parts, including hinges, handles, locks, and other operating mechanisms. Strong locksmith skills are essential, as you will need the ability to modify, repair, and replace a range of lock systems, ensuring each installation or repair operates smoothly and securely.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with uPVC, aluminium, timber, and wood/aluminium (aluminium-clad timber) systems, with a strong understanding of how different window and door systems operate. You should be skilled in identifying faults and carrying out precise repairs and replacements on tilt and turn, tilt and slide systems, lift and slide systems, as well as sash and casement windows. Experience working with premium brands such as VELFAC, Rationel, and Idealcombi is also essential.

You will ensure full compliance with safety standards, provide clear technical advice to clients, and work closely with internal teams to deliver a reliable, professional, and high-quality service on every project.

GC Doors operates from its main depot in Broxbourne, which serves as the central hub for material collection, waste disposal, and deployment to sites across London and the surrounding areas.

Highly Desirable:

We highly encourage applications from candidates based on the north and northwest side of the M25, including areas such as Watford, Barnet, Elstree, Borehamwood, Potters Bar, Bushey, Stanmore, Edgware, Mill Hill, Radlett, and Enfield. This section of the M25 provides convenient access to our typical service locations across North and Central London. We particularly welcome applications from candidates living within a reasonable distance — ideally no more than a 45-minute commute — to ensure efficient operations and timely site attendance.

In this role, you will:

  • Surveying Expertise: Conduct comprehensive site surveys across a wide range of window and door types — including casement, tilt-and-turn, aluminium sliding, bi-fold, uPVC, timber, and composite systems — to assess condition, identify issues, and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
  • Technical Repairs and Fault Resolution: Carry out diagnostics, repairs, and replacements on a range of window and door systems, including aluminium doors, casement windows, and tilt-and-turn systems. Tasks include replacing or adjusting locks, hinges, handles, glazing beads, and other mechanisms; realigning dropped units; replacing misted double glazing; resealing draughty or leaking frames; and installing trickle vents or safety restrictors as required.
  • Replacement of Complex System Hardware: Replace and adjust advanced window and door hardware, including components for multi-point locking composite doors, tilt-and-turn windows, aluminium sliding systems, and bi-fold doors.
  • Locksmith: Provide a full range of locksmith services, including repairing and replacing door and window locks, cylinders, and multi-point locking systems.
  • Customer Service: Deliver exceptional service, ensuring that every project meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Your expertise will play a critical role in maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency while working both independently and collaboratively.

Skills and Expertise

  • Repair Knowledge: Minimum 5 years’ experience repairing a wide range of window and door types, including mechanism replacement and adjustments.
  • Locksmith Experience: At least 2 years’ professional experience carrying out locksmith work, including repairing and replacing door and window locks, cylinders, and multi-point locking systems.
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fenestration Installation (or equivalent experience).
  • Tools & Transport: Full UK driving licence, own hand and power tools.
  • Additional Certifications (desirable): CSCS Card, PASMA/IPAF Certification, or knowledge of leading suppliers in the window and door sector.
