Type of Contract: Permanent - Full Time – 40hrs per week (On-site Working)

Shift Pattern: 9:00-5:30pm

The Team

Supporting students' wellbeing by offering help with mental health, personal issues, and practical concerns like housing or finances. Providing guidance, crisis support, and promoting a safe, inclusive environment to help students succeed both personally and academically.

The role

Your work within Student Wellbeing will focus on working in partnership with students to identify barriers to learning, and provide ongoing support according to their needs. The work you do will help students manage social and emotional issues, enable our staff to provide the best support to learners with wellbeing needs, and help the students you work with to get the best out of their study with GBS.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective, targeted learning and study support services, providing specialist assistance to students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) and disabilities.
  • Enable students with additional needs to achieve their full potential by removing barriers to learning and fostering independence.
  • Work alongside academic teams and relevant faculties to improve student retention, improve confidence in learners and contribute to their academic success.

Essential Experience/Skills required:

  • Demonstrable experience working in Higher Education.
  • Experience providing one-to-one academic or learning support to students with Specific Learning Differences (e.g. Dyslexia, ADHD) or disabilities.
  • Recognised qualification in teaching, learning support, or a related field (e.g. Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Learners with SpLDs, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education practices and reasonable adjustments in a higher education context.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate students.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) processes and support frameworks.
  • Training in mental health awareness or mentoring.
  • Experience of delivering group work sessions.
