Type of Contract: Fixed Term (6 months Maternity Cover)

The role involves:

  • Collaborating with a team to understand and analyse statutory business needs, comprehend data content, and contribute to new data projects from end to end, including gathering requirements for implementation.
  • Working with departments across GBS to communicate the data collection requirements for statutory returns.
  • Producing student related statutory external returns i.e Data Futures for the Office for Students and the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
  • Extracting, auditing, preparing and collating raw data from multiple sources and analysing, interpreting and editing data to produce customised reports/statistics.
  • Recognising erroneous data and escalating to the appropriate individual in line with company procedure.
  • Reviewing processes and liaising with relevant teams to improve processes and prevent persistent issues from occurring in the future.
  • Evaluating if processes relating to data collection are meeting statutory requirements and monitoring data quality within the student records.
  • Training staff across the institution regarding statutory requirements and how their areas of work feed into them.
  • Building positive relationships with other professional services teams and academic staff and coordinating regularly with key stakeholders in designated departments.
  • Monitoring and assisting in audits for data quality, data integrity and data governance.
  • Preparing reports for internal and external audiences using appropriate reporting tools.
  • Supporting colleagues across the organisation, building new and improving existing data dashboards, graphs and visualisations.
  • Assisting in preparation of HESA Student Record Submission (Data Futures), Graduates outcome and NSS Survey data to be sent via various portals.
  • Maintaining a good understanding of relevant policy and legislation in relation to information governance, security, and compliance.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A good degree in a numerate subject.
  • Previous experience of HESA-Student Record (Data Futures) Submission and data analysis would be advantageous.
  • Detailed knowledge of statistical techniques and research methodologies.
  • Confidence in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to communicate complex data capability effectively.
  • Good/Excellent knowledge of advanced Excel skills and analytical tools including Microsoft Power BI.
  • A good understanding of data and model design, joins and views are preferable.
  • Showing initiative, curiosity and drive through work, effectively prioritising tasks and managing these to deadlines.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with R/Python/SPSS or Stata.
  • Experience in presenting data in exciting and insightful stories via interactive dashboards or presentations.
