Role Purpose: Reporting to the Data and BI Manager, the BI Analyst will transform business requirements into actionable insights through data analysis, reporting, and visualisation. The role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and usability of BI outputs across GBS. It also involves applying advanced analytics techniques and leveraging modern platforms such as Microsoft Fabric to uncover trends, support forecasting, and improve strategic decision-making across the student lifecycle and wider institutional operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.
- Translate business requirements into data models, KPIs, and reporting solutions.
- Conduct data analysis to identify trends and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance through strong governance practices.
- Use Microsoft Fabric for data ingestion, data engineering, and analytics pipelines.
- Automate recurring reporting processes using Fabric, Power Automate, or similar tools.
- Support ETL and data integration across multiple internal and external sources.
- Perform advanced analytics, including forecasting and predictive modelling.
- Present findings through clear data storytelling and visualisation.
- Work closely with academic and operational teams to understand reporting needs.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Data, or related field.
- Strong proficiency in BI tools, preferably Power BI.
- Advanced SQL and solid understanding of data modelling and DAX.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience with ETL tools and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience with Python or R for advanced analytics.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong documentation skills (user guides, data dictionaries).
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Awareness of AI/GenAI use cases in BI and analytics.
- Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and compliance (GDPR).
- Experience working with student-related data (attendance, enrolment, progression, continuation).
- Experience in Higher Education (HESA, OfS reporting).
- Power BI or Microsoft Fabric certification.
- Experience with Power Automate or Fabric pipelines.
Key Result Areas:
- Stakeholder Management: Build effective stakeholder satisfaction from business units deemed Data and Information team customers. Timely communication and issue resolution with internal and external stakeholders.
- Subject Matter Expert: Be the lead on at least two business areas and source systems. Gain a detailed knowledge and advanced systems expertise knowledge - front end and back end.
- Knowledge Transfer & Documentation: Maintain and build a library of comprehensive technical documentation for your reporting area specialism. Handover sessions conducted for in-house teams.
