GBR Recruitment Ltd are exclusively recruiting for an experienced Fuel & Oils Buyer on behalf of a well established Lincolnshire based company that is growing year on year. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Fuel & Oils Procurement / Purchasing / Buying professional to lead our clients c. £35m turnover fuel business. This role may suit someone who has been a Transport Manager / Fleet Manager / Car Dealership Manager with Diesel purchasing responsibility, or someone from within similar roles that aren't necessarily titled as a traditional Buyer or Purchasing Manager or Procurement Manager, the role is open to different levels of experience.
The fuel portfolio includes diesel, gas oil, kerosene, bulk & bottled gas, AdBlue, fuel cards & other associated fuel products / services. The client is seeking a Fuel purchasing professional who can deliver real change & implement new improved procurement methods, ensuring the company has an approach to the fuel market that is strategic, proactive & reactive, rather than just reactive as it has been, in order to successfully grow the revenue figures, the profit margins & sell more volume to its end using fuel customers whilst keeping a competitive edge.
They need someone who will challenge how they procure fuel & find smarter ways of working, as the fuel business has massive growth potential under the right fuel professionals strategic leadership. This is a genuine business leadership role with full operational authority over the fuel portfolio, with additional direct line management of a Fuel Coordinator & a Fuel Administrator. This role will suit someone who can build genuine partnerships with suppliers, not just transactional relationships. The company wants to look at implementing early payment models for better pricing. Further geographic expansion is also wanted to offer a full UK wide fuel service.
Duties:
- Purchase fuel & oils at high volumes
- Provide a strategic growth plan for the fuel business
- Build relationships with senior commercial teams who can make decisions, moving beyond supplier customer service desks
- Implement early payment models (faster payment for better pricing)
- Negotiate volume-based agreements and annual commitment arrangements for year-round competitive pricing
- Investigate consortium buying
- Move from transactional relationships to genuine partnerships
- Research hedging arrangements to protect against price volatility
- Evaluate forward purchasing contracts
- Look at differing buying models that can be learnt from
- Explore different ways to source fuel
- Identify areas that need improving within the operation & implement change methodologies
- Deliver further geographic expansion to be fully National
- Proactive contact with large buyers when markets are moving
- Regular engagement with top fuel purchasers
- Implement a structured approach
- Expand fuel cards, bulk gas & AdBlue business areas
- Get the early payment model operational
- Close deals effectively, not just discuss them
- Work with the companies Financial Controller on set payment structures
- Develop annual fuel business strategy & budget / P&L
- Conduct pricing competitiveness analysis & pricing improvements
- Review current operations to find efficiencies & find areas to improve
- Provide market commentary to members
Attributes:
- Experienced Fuel Procurement Manager, Fuel Buyer, Fuel Buying Manager, Fuel Purchasing Manager, Transport Manager or similar roles with comparable duties / responsibilities
- Fuel industry experience is a must have (purchasing, procurement, buying, supply chain etc.)
- Experience in diesel, gas oil, kerosene, bulk & bottled gas, AdBlue, plus fuel cards & other associated fuel products / services (several of these)
- Proven track record of growth, performance improvement & CI
- Strategic thinker who sees opportunities, not just problems
