About The Team

GBG's Platform Engineering team is dedicated to providing all our Product Engineering teams the ability to deliver change faster, safer, and more efficiently. We believe self-service, developer-centric, and automated systems are the key to high performance and growth for GBG. You will be joining a team of experienced engineers from a wide range of disciplines from developers to cloud engineers. The role

Enablers of Acceleration and Efficiency

Are you passionate about enabling engineering teams to move at lightning speed with confidence and security? Do you have the Kubernetes expertise to turn complex infrastructure challenges into elegant, scalable solutions? At GBG, we're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to continuously improve and optimise our Internal Development Platform (IDP) empowering innovation and high performance across our business. GBG is a truly Global organisation, our platforms handle millions of transactions per hour. This role is your opportunity to use innovation and influence to shape the direction and adoption of our platform.

What You Will Do

  • Build Self-Service Capabilities That Accelerate Delivery and Automate Quality: Develop and maintain a Global Internal Development Platform and supporting capabilities powered by AWS, EKS, Terraform, Python, and more. Engineer scalable and secure Kubernetes-based solutions that remove dependencies (whether people, process, or technology) and enable squads to focus on building amazing products for our customers at pace.
  • Be a Kubernetes Expert: Lead the charge with deep expertise in Kubernetes, ensuring our EKS clusters are resilient, efficient, and tailored to the needs of our engineering teams. Maintain, configure and architect the implementation of tools like Cilium for networking and Kyverno for policy management to build a platform that reduces cognitive load from our teams.
  • Integrate Security into everything we deliver: Champion DevSecOps by embedding security into everything you design and build. Work closely with our security teams to ensure compliance with the highest standards while enabling seamless developer experiences.
  • Optimise Performance and Costs: Live the principles of FinOps to deliver cost-efficient solutions without compromising performance. Extend our monitoring systems to ensure operational excellence and real-time visibility. Design tools that proactively find and resolve performance and resiliency issues.
  • Enable Developer Autonomy: Self-service is at the core of what we do, using tools such as CrossPlane to build capabilities and workflows that empower teams to deploy, scale, and manage their applications with minimal friction. Engage with our Product Engineering teams through training, demonstrations, and easy to consume documentation of our capabilities ensuring all teams maximise the platform's capabilities.

Requirements

What are we looking for

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven expertise with Kubernetes (EKS experience preferred); Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) strongly desired.
  • Mastery of Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and Python for scripting and automation with a background in software development and SDLC.
  • Hands-on experience with Cilium for Kubernetes networking and Kyverno for policy enforcement.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
  • Solid understanding of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong grasp of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimisation strategies.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Open Telemetry.
  • Experience managing complex multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
  • Expertise in implementing service mesh technologies and advanced networking strategies.
  • A proven track record of building developer-friendly tools and platforms.
