Lead Engineer
Loqate is building the best engineering team. We hire engineers with a broad set of technical skills, who are highly cross-functional and eager to solve a wide range of engineering challenges. We have an ambitious target to grow our customer base from 20,000 to over 100,000. You will help achieve this by leading the technical direction of our SaaS platform, with ownership to decide where you and your team can best deliver value. Responsibilities include modularising parts of our monolithic architecture, leading greenfield projects, or applying growth engineering strategies. There is no line management responsibility with this role; you will work closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers and other Technical Leads to drive technical excellence and deliver value for our customers.
What You Will Do
- Take ownership of the technical design, delivery, and documentation of our SaaS platform as we scale to support over 100,000 customers. This role includes hands-on development as well as lead/architecture work.
- Raise the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Mentor and coach others to help them be the best they can be.
- Promote agility alongside scalability and availability. Enable continuous deployment with incremental releases.
- Take responsibility for platform health and observability, using data to understand user behavior and drive product development.
Skills We\’re Looking For
Core Skills
- A strong foundation in software engineering principles and deep knowledge of at least one high-level programming language. C# and Go are used heavily across our products.
- Experience with distributed cloud systems, containers, and infrastructure as code. We run on Kubernetes in GCP.
- Strong knowledge of database technologies (e.g., SQL Server, MongoDB).
- Experience as the primary technical leader in a team and collaborating with other teams and stakeholders.
- A passion for promoting engineering excellence through coaching and guidance.
- An understanding of different architectural and design patterns and when to apply them.
- Experience shipping fast, reliable, real-time applications using modern development tools and practices.
Nice to have
- Understanding of GitOps and experience with tools such as Argo CD.
- Experience integrating services and tools (e.g., Salesforce, Segment, HubSpot, Stripe).
- Experience with SQL and data warehousing/pipelining tools (e.g., BigQuery, Airflow).
- Experience navigating and transforming legacy codebases, as well as leading greenfield projects.
- A polyglot approach to choosing the right tool for the job.
