We're looking for a confident, hands on Night Shift Manager to lead our overnight transport operation at our Alfreton site. This role is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, makes clear decisions quickly, and is comfortable running an operation with a high level of autonomy. Working within a fast-moving crossdock environment, you'll take full ownership of the night shift, ensuring vehicles are turned around efficiently, issues are resolved in real time, and the operation runs safely and smoothly.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the overnight transport and crossdock operation, ensuring vehicles are loaded, dispatched, and turned around efficiently and safely
- Acting as the senior decisionmaker on nights, resolving lastminute issues relating to drivers, vehicles, loads, and service delivery
- Managing and motivating the night team, providing clear direction and maintaining performance with minimal onsite support
- Ensuring all vehicle loading is compliant with legal requirements, including weight distribution and load security
- Driving a safetyfirst culture, ensuring full adherence to health & safety standards and safe systems of work
- Maintaining tight control of operational flow, ensuring goods are accurately handled, loaded, and dispatched on time
- Monitoring performance across key metrics including service, accuracy, and efficiency
- Working closely with supervisors to ensure clear communication and seamless shift handovers
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in transport, logistics, or crossdock operations (3+ years preferred)
- Strong knowledge of transport compliance, including Drivers’ Hours, tachographs, and HGV operations
- Experienced leader, able to take ownership, make decisions, and lead with confidence in a low support environment
- Calm under pressure, with strong problem solving ability and a proactive approach to challenges
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and operational control
- Confident communicator, able to direct teams and maintain high standards
- Driven, hands on, and focused on delivering service and efficiency
