Join a highly creative employee communications agency within Mercer known as Impact. This role focuses on crafting and executing impactful communications for a broad range of trustee and corporate clients, covering all aspects of member engagement including guiding members through complex pension change exercises. This is an opportunity to be part of a fast‑growing team that’s been named a ‘big bet’ for the UK organisation.

As a Senior Consultant in the Impact team, you will lead the delivery of complex and high‑impact communication projects across a broad range of sectors, with the opportunity to move beyond pension communications to deliver wider reward, benefits, and organisational change initiatives. You will act as a trusted adviser to clients, developing and executing strategic communication plans that drive engagement and member outcomes. You will work closely with the Head of Member Experience to help drive forward the business in this area.

This role requires strong project leadership, business development acumen, and collaboration across Mercer’s Lines of Business (LOBs) and Marsh. You will also contribute to the growth and development of junior colleagues through coaching and mentoring.

We will count on you to:

  • Client Relationship and Business Development: Build and maintain long‑term strategic relationships with clients and prospects, understanding their evolving needs and identifying opportunities for expanded services. Drive individual sales targets (~£500k annually) through proactive business development activities, including proposal development, pitches, and cross‑LOB collaboration. Support and mentor colleagues in developing a business development mindset and skills. Contribute to market insights and product development initiatives to enhance the Impact team’s communication offerings.
  • Strategic Communication Leadership: Lead the development and execution of innovative, multi‑channel communication strategies for complex client initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Serve as a trusted adviser to senior client stakeholders, providing expert guidance on communication approaches and best practices. Oversee the creation, review, and quality control of all communication collateral, including letters, digital content, presentations, and videos, ensuring high standards and consistency. Provide constructive feedback and coaching to junior team members on communication deliverables and approaches.
  • Project and Service Delivery Management: Manage multiple large and complex communication projects (typically >£150k), ensuring successful delivery on time, within scope, and budget. Proactively identify and manage project risks, dependencies, and resource allocation to optimise project outcomes and profitability. Collaborate effectively with internal teams, external vendors, and client stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution. Monitor project financials, including utilisation and profitability, and report progress to leadership.
  • People Leadership and Development: Provide coaching, mentoring, and support to junior colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning and accountability. Participate in recruitment and performance management activities as required. Promote an inclusive and collaborative team environment that encourages innovation and professional growth.

What you need to have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in DB pension communications or consulting, with a track record of managing complex projects and client relationships.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences including senior leadership.
  • Proven project management expertise, including financial acumen to manage budgets and profitability.
  • Demonstrated business development skills with a proactive approach to sales and client growth.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior colleagues effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain trusted client and internal relationships.

What makes you stand out?

  • Experience beyond pension communications into broader reward, benefits, or organisational change communications is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Mercer’s Lines of Business and collaborative working across teams is advantageous.
