Are you a confident, hands‑on HR Business Partner who thrives in a fast‑paced, operational environment? We’re looking for an experienced HR professional to support a large transport and warehouse operation across four sites requiring regular travel. This is a true HRBP role where you’ll partner closely with senior leaders to drive performance, engagement and people capability across a workforce of 500+ colleagues. With regular travel between sites, you’ll play a visible and influential role on the ground, building strong relationships and delivering practical, people‑focused solutions. You’ll bring strong employee relations expertise, with the confidence to manage a varied and complex caseload, alongside a passion for coaching and developing line managers. Experience within a unionised environment is essential, as is the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Support with employee satisfaction, performance, retention and effective communication at sites.
  • Support the ER agenda and lead or support relationships and key processes with unions at sites.
  • Deploy the Business HR Priorities as directed (e.g., labour flexibility, OMS, LPMC, payroll optimisation, T&C’s standardisation).
  • Provide HR support to start ups and business wins, losses and transfers.
  • Ensure employee performance management (sickness, discipline, grievance) is robustly supported.
  • Support managers to develop and deliver solutions for workforce planning and management, including organisation design, forecasting resourcing needs, agency and identifying future talent requirements.
  • Act as an advisor to managers to support compliance with HR policies.

Qualifications

  • Strong HR Business Partner experience within a customer‑centric, operational environment.
  • Proven union relationship management and pay negotiations experience.
  • Solid ER expertise across performance management, disciplinaries, grievances and attendance.
  • High energy with a genuine passion for culture, engagement and visible HR presence.
  • Credible influencer, able to challenge and support senior leaders in a tough setting.
  • Experience building management capability through coaching and pragmatic advice.
  • Resilient and adaptable, comfortable working at pace in a demanding, public‑facing operation.
  • CIPD studying, qualified or equivalent level of professional HR knowledge.
  • Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to build trust at all levels.
