In preparation for the 2025 autumn season, GB Railfreight is seeking highly motivated individuals to join as Seasonal Operators. This role is based at Kings Norton until 31st December, with the potential for a permanent Rail Operator position across various depots nationwide upon successful completion of the contract.
This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain operational experience in the rail industry within a safety-critical environment, providing exposure to various roles and personnel within the company.
Full training will be provided, including Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification and equipment-specific training.
Responsibilities
- Operate Rail Head Treatment Trains (RHTTs) during the autumn leaf-fall season to maintain safe railhead conditions.
- Maintain locomotives, including cleaning, sanding, and readiness checks to ensure depot standards are met.
Essential Criteria
- UK full manual driving license (clean).
- Ability to pass a pre-employment railway standard medical.
- Residency within 45 minutes of the depot.
Personal Attributes
- Safety-conscious, adhering strictly to safety practices.
- Comfortable with shift work, including nights and weekends, with a willingness to work overtime.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Basic mechanical and technical understanding, with the ability to follow processes and report faults.

- Flexible and perseverant, capable of adapting to changing scenarios.
- Ability to pass the industry-standard medical examination.
