Overview
We are currently seeking an Operations Manager to join our Eastleigh team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Safety, exceptional Customer Service, and Performance within the designated area of control.
Applicants should have previous line management experience and be dedicated to maintaining regular engagement with staff, nurturing their development, and ensuring their competencies are up to date.
Customer relations are crucial for success in this role. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional stakeholder management skills, providing a robust service to internal and external customers. We seek a motivating manager with excellent leadership skills who ensures work is planned efficiently with available resources.
Due to operational demands, a flexible approach to working hours is required, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Participation in the regional on-call roster is also mandatory.

Responsibilities
- Produce and update methods of work and risk assessments; undertake audits and location checks as scheduled.
- Maintain a safe and orderly yard and working environment; reinforce safety procedures with staff.
- Address safety issues promptly and efficiently in accordance with railway regulations.
- Plan and schedule delivery of jobs to customers in coordination with Long Term and Short Term Planning teams to optimize train crew rosters, considering budgets and performance, including last-minute cancellations or absences.
- Ensure shifts are fully staffed and communicated timely; develop contingency plans for last-minute roster changes.
- Monitor and review systems for wagon damage caused during loading/unloading.
- Maintain equipment within locations to standards that ensure reliable and continuous operation.

- Line or supervisory management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Operational experience
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Skills
- ILM or supervisory training
- Formal assessor and verifier qualification (A1/L12, V1 Verifier, D132/33)
- Proven management and leadership skills
- Incident investigation experience
- Disciplinary and investigation handling
- Knowledge of Class 66 and relevant route and traction knowledge
- Train Operations Liaison Officer (TOLO) certification
